Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 The Mets are sitting on 20 homers in 12 spring training games. Yeah, it's only spring, and who knows who among some of these Gulf Coast Gargantuans will be actual gargantuans, but for comparison, with the 2009 Mets, you have go back August 27 --- or 35 games, to garner as many. And maybe if we're in a mood to not credit the batter so much as discredit the crappy spring pitchers, well, some small amount of heart might be taken in that a great deal of those pitchers were wearing the uniforms of division rivals. HYEH!Anyhow, only two other league rivals are floating in the same stratosphere, and nobody's touching our power numbers, and the Cubs only lead the OPS column by a rounding issue. And before you get all Negative Nancy by asking how many more games did the Mets get a DH in than other teams, take some time to dig on these Collosi of Clout, walking among puny mortals.RankTeamGABRH2B3BHRRBITBBBSOSBCSAVGOBPSLGOPS1Chicago Cubs1137770123294965187437344.326.396.496.8932New York Mets12419881291942083216466893.308.376.516.8923Houston Astros9335551063631051178195241.316.355.531.8864Arizona Diamondbacks11364611042441459178406274.286.365.489.8545Florida Marlins10367641082161160174387981.294.362.474.8366Milwaukee Brewers124097311626513641914373164.284.361.467.8287Colorado Rockies1240267121347563184346772.301.361.458.8198St. Louis Cardinals93165789273652140405943.282.371.443.8149Atlanta Braves103325893250456130635062.280.402.392.79410Philadelphia Phillies93234394192941144295040.291.346.446.79211San Francisco Giants1242173121305970188337465.287.346.447.79312Cincinnati Reds826138601521235115305352.230.313.441.75413Washington Nationals931445781829421273268141.248.323.404.72714San Diego Padres1034953892634481333146145.255.325.381.70615Pittsburgh Pirates1137962891561161149408093.235.311.393.70416Los Angeles Dodgers826729636252788414744.236.342.330.672You know, I'm rooting as much as any rival fan for this being the year Pittsburgh arises from thier slumber, but my word, do they have their work cut out for them.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 How many of these taters were clubbed by guys who might deserve a spot on a MLB roster but instead will be displaced by such dead wood as Alex Cora and Fernando Tatis?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Don't be a Yankee fan. Backup infielders are a fact of life.Of LIFE.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 And here I was thinking this thread was announcing the return of Zvon.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Nice to see David Wright get a knock..a thing of beauty
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 In the games I've heard/seen, the announcers have commented that the wind was blowing out.But yesterday, Matthews' shot was to dead center (the wind was blowing out to right) and Bay's homer landed about 75 feet beyond the fence.Wind my ass.I prefer to think the Mets have power. And I'm lovin' every minute of it.Thanks for the chart.LAter

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 The era of Forbes Field, Phillies at Briggs and my favorite... Mets at Crosley with the uphill rightfield which seemed more natural than the putting green in CF at Houston..
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I've been meaning for several years to make it to Pittsburgh for a Mets/Pirates tilt... that new park looks beautiful on TV, and it's not all that much further of a drive than Flushing is from my house.I'm discouraged by Mets' annual steaming coil of badness that they deposit on the field in that city though. Man.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 PNC is my favorite park - you really should make the trip Fman!
