dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 On one hand, it's good for me, because I have a shorter drive to see the Cyclones, but it's sad that yet another small town is losing a NY/Penn league team...http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100128&content_id=7989132&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 We've been to little Damaschke Field in Oneonta three times. We planned our first three visits to Cooperstown to coincide with Oneonta home games. Back in 1982 we watched a strapping young right fielder for the Oneonta Yankees who went on to have a Hall of Fame career. Fella name of Elway.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 The Norwich Navigators moved? I went to one of their games once against the Red Sox AA team. Hanley Ramirez hit a home run and made an error in the field.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 The Gators weren't the Gators any more... they became the Connecticut Defenders (owing to the area's submarine heritage) a few years ago. I hope the O-Tigers take the Defender name and keep the logo, because I need to buy a new CD hat.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Sad for upstate NY. This happened when I lived in Watertown, they lost a rookie league Indians affiliate. It sucks for those folks who are local and were regulars.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Leaves Brook's Chicken the only reason to go to Oneonta (I ain't googlin' it but I guess they got a soccer hof there or something too).I'd go to Norwich to watch the Cyclones for a weekend game.Got friends in Westerly RI which is pretty close to impose onfor accommodations. We should think about mini forum outings ... Brooklyn, Renegades, and Norwich now.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 If I recall, Oneonta is where I had the best burger of my life, something like 15 years ago when I went to the Baseball Hall of Fame for the first time.
