Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 The Braves have designated young Ryan for assignment.http://www.talkingchop.com/2009/12/8/1191473/ryan-church-dfaed-by-braves
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 So if they wind up releasing him that means they have nothing to show for Francouer? This is an area in which I am sorely lacking. Its a given that major league front offices are far more adept at judging talent than I am, but has Ryan Church's (and Francouer's too for that matter) star fallen so far that releasing the guy is 'okay'? The guy seems to have the talent to be a starting outfielder in the majors. He's only 30. Why just give up on him like that? What do they see that I just don't?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I'd say he's an old 30 with all his recent maladies , but yeah it does seem like a waste to not even give him a shot through ST....
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 That he would cost them more than they saw him as being worth, I guess. They were probably going to non-tender him anyhow. But since retaiining Soriano cost them a roster slot, it forced their hands.
Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 He'd make an awful nice platoon partner with Francoeur:Frenchy vs. Lefties, career:BA .298 OBP .340 SLG .487 OPS .827 Churchy vs. Righties, career:BA .280 OBP .353 SLG .460 OPS .813 Plus, Church could fill in in center in Beltran needs time off. Just saying.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I was thinking the same thing; Church could possibly have a role on the 2010 Mets. I got the sense, though, that they had kind of soured on him. Not really because of his skills, but something about his approach or attitude. I don't think he's a "Jerry Manuel guy" (which may actually speak well of him) so I'm not at all sure there would be interest in bringing Ryan back. But he's talented, available, and cheap. If only he was Latin, right Bill Madden?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I just can't see him back with the Mets......for the reasons pointed out by Grim.....his time here was a mess and I'm sure he thinks he was treated badly by management.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I was thinking along the same lines as VCF when I read of Church's release. I never really liked the Francoeur for Church trade all that much when it was made. It's wasn't that I was opposed to adding Francoeur, more that I didn't like losing Church. I never felt that Manuel gave him a fair shot last season. Chaurch always seemed to be in Manuel's doghouse for some reason. I do think his returning to the Mets ion 2010 is highly unlikely.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I will chew and eat the animal anus of your choice if Church ever voluntarily puts on a Met uniform again.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 As wit' everybody, it depends on the price, and where they might otherwise spend it. He's certainly an upgrade on Jeremy Reed. But it's worth noting that he hasn't been as good since concussion number two, though that certainly might be coincidental. As far as LWFS's offer, I'll go with orangutan. Those guys just sit there in their own mess.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I should stipulate that said anus should be legally obtainable.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 A certain Tiger runs to the top of the line for the ass eating from LWFS.
