MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 How is it that these extra umpires never get the freakin' call right?@?@?#?$?!?Dude couldn't see Jeffrey Maier's arm from 10 feet away and now this dork screws up a ball that was fair TWICE (hit glove and hit 6 inches or more inside the line)[/quote:3onqlirw]I was listening on radio during the drive home. The guys in the booth couldn't believe how badly the ump blew the call. Then they added that the ump who blew it blocked the view of both the thrid base and home plate umps, so neither of them could correct the call.Yechhhh!Later
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 This postseason is not going as I would have hoped. As distasteful as it is for me to watch the Yankees play, it is absolutley nauseating to watch them win on a home run that wouldn't get out of most high school fields.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 This game proves once again how the MLB replay rule is a joke. OK, review for home runs that are questionable, fine. But how many times do we have to see blown calls that would obviously be overturned? This play, the play in the WS last year when one of the Rays (Baldelli?) was called out at 3rd on a dreadful call, Matt Holliday sliding and never touching home, Inge hit by the pitch. These all happened in the last three seasons. I don't give a %$*& if the umps don't like it...I don't like having to look at dopes like CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez make a joke of my favorite sport.[/quote:1z8gjdbo]The umps weren't actually against the inclusion of the replay rule. They acknowledged that HRs are frequently the hardest calls they have to make and welcomed whatever help they could get.But do we really want to stop the game for every close or semi-close play and turn these already 3-1/2 hour games into 4-1/2? And, as we've seen in the NFL, it's not like the replay rule has stopped bitching about refereeing. I think it's actually created as many problems as it's solved.I was fine with allowing HRs to be reviewed but wouldn't want to see it expanded.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I'm sick and went to bed at the end on the 8th , not in the least surprised when I woke up at 4am and checked the score.....the magic went across the street articles are probably everywhere this morning.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Every time I see the replay of that ball bouncing in fair territoryonly like 15 feet from the ump that called it foul I just see red. Heshould be fired from the rest of the post season and investigated.

Or, similarly, something similar to the last-two-minutes system, where the replay assistant signals likely reverse-worthy calls to the ump via buzzing pager?

It ain't a Mets game
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Carey was a bingo announcer before this , right?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 What's surprising is that CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez are umping in the post-season and neither made that lousy call.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Bucknor did have a couple of clunkers of his own in the Bos-LAA series though, including one where Youkilis had to come off 1st to make a tag but didn't get the call even though the replay shows his mitt being bent back from the force of slapping the tag on the runner's hip. Youk should have told him; "Missed him?, I think I bruised him!"
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Gay-Rod ties it at 1 and then Posada hits a solo shot for a 2 to 1 lead....
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Why do teams playing the Yanx put 'BE REALLY STUPID' into their game plans all the time?!?!?Mutha-Fucka there's NO OUTS DUDE, where da fuck ya going?!?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 At least this time no one will be able to blame it on the Mets as someone on the radio did yesterday for game one's gaffe (on account of it being former Met Gomez getting nailed for wandering)
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Damon = K'sI'm turning this off, I can't watch.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 Well right now you're not watching three different Twins pitchers issue three consecutive walks.I guess they just want to remove any doubt about their coming back in bottom 9
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 I think the next Yanqui batter Nathan retires will be the first ... and I'm talking about in his career.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Well, didn't expect Minnesota to win the SERIES, but... Christ, they couldn't have rolled over easier if they had wheeled belts.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 A bunch of puffters those Twins
