not a turnstile jumper.

I mean, with us now having a seven-man pen (thank you Omar), it seems Reed and Sully are just so redundant. I want some power on the pine and I kind of want it soon.

I'll take Evans. I'll take Chip Ambres. Heck, I'll take Val Pascucci.

Sheff returns Sunday, but we could be out of it by then...

Kingman? Sure, I'll take him.

After tonight's game, an ESPN "expert" was saying that Victor Martinez would be an excellent fit for the Mets. (Didn't catch the name, but it may have been Andrew Marchand).
He added that he didn't think it was too likely. But it would make sense to me - against lefties playiing first with Santos catching and catching with Murphy at first against righties. (Yeah, I know, Murph hits lefties pretty well. But the Mets need that thumper.)

Well, yes, he's a perennial-Silver-Slugger-candidate catcher who doesn't kill you defensively and plays a half-credible 1B on days off. He'll help.

The question is, which super-cheap, under-control-for-a-decade guys would you give up for him? Because given that they've reportedly negged offers that START with Clay Buchholz and Dan Bard, it'll cost some.

I doubt we'll be "out of it"

But Sheff isn't the power answer. He plays pathetic defense and really hasn't hit that well, with the exception of taking walks. He's hitting a home run less than once a week, and who knows if he'll be 100% if/when he comes back.

What about Carlos Pena? I know he's hitting shit for average this season, but it's not like we're keeping Delgado beyond this season anyway.

And here was me thinking that Sheffield was one of the better players for the Mets during the worst of times this season. Hitting a home run less than once a week seems an odd way to make a point ceetar.
