I want to be Pedro.

From Metsblog:

]Pedro Martinez during todays press conference commented on the Mets interest in re-signing him:

I was hoping the Mets would make a move and they didnt, so I decided to wait. It wasnt my decision to not be in New York. It was someone elses.

I knew that one of the teams would need pitching at this time, so I waited. I actually was able to jump into first place without throwing a ball. Im really glad Im here. The Mets are gonna go their way, Im gonna go with Philly in my way. I just have to continue on, no grudges.

On his time with the Mets:

I have a lot of respect for the Mets organization. I have nothing to say but God bless them, wish them well, I hope they all get healthy and come back and compete.

About the Mets-Phillies rivalry, and if he will have extra motivation to beat the Mets:

I would love to tell you that, but I cant hide love, and I have love for those people. I cant do anything with the hate you have for the Mets fans. Thats between you guys.

Yeah, he's a veteran. Yeah, he's a smartie. But with him, this kind of stuff seems heartfelt.

I think I want to be Pedro, too.

of course the writer makes no comment on the irony. And then there is this quote, which also goes unremarked upon:

]"Of course there's some risk here," Amaro said. "But we'd rather risk it on someone of his caliber and who knows how to win."

Yes, he knows how to win... by throwing a 94-MPH fastball he no longer has with pinpoint control he no longer has. I know how to win, too. I just can't do it. And neither can Pedro, at this point.

Who wouldn't want to be Pedro? Sign a contract and then get a few weeks off.

Caveat: Other teams sometimes assign players to the Disabled List and they actually heal and return in short order to succeed on a going basis. Crazy, I know, but I've heard tell.

Well, this team paid him to be on the DL for 2 1/2 years. The Phils are just getting a better deal.

"Desired starting date: AUGUST 15 (Travel plans)?"

The Mets also signed him to throw out a flag to other FA's and their Latin Develpment program which has produced zero.

Fuck Pedro..and Little Pedro

15 days gets the Phils to July 31. Looks like a pre-emptive strike in the event they whiff at the trading deadline.

That's a pretty common myth. The truth is the DL is a mystical place where concussions go untreated and even light cannot escape.
