After having KTEed the wild-card-leading(!) Giants, and having developed a not-inconsiderable amount of platonic love for team batting/caloric intake leader Pablo Sandoval, I would be remiss if I didn't share details of the team's push for All-Star Final Vote-age:

The "Vote for Pablo" video is a bit cheesy, but cute, and a vote for Pablo takes a little bit of swagger out of voting leader Pricktorino's step.

If nothing else, 'Kung Fu Panda' has got to be the most perfect nickname for the very athletic yet chunky Sandoval. I think peeps should vote for him just on that basis alone.

At this week's meeting of NY Giants fetishists, some of whom remain loyal to the San Franciscans, one nice fellow brought his daughters who were dressed in black and orange and wielding VOTE FOR PABLO signs. Cute, if a little...I dunno.

Yes, but then he's not so much an All-Star-- he's an injury replacement. We'll always know... he'll always know. And not only did the Inky endorse Victorino... the mayor came out to campaign with him in South Philadelphia yesterday. Door to door. For two hours. ('Cause, you know, it's not like he's got anything to do in a city swimming in red ink, with a murder rate of 50 per 10,000.)

The only time I'd ever vote for Victorino is a "biggest jerk" contest. And Werth replaces Beltran on the A-S team. Great--two more Phillies.

Did Manuel get to choose him? , if so I have no problem with him bringing his own guy. It's not like Torre in the old days bringing suspect bullpen guys with him every year it seemed.

Werth joins the other two Philadelphia outfielders already on the team -- Raul Ibanez, elected as a starter by the fans' vote, and Final Vote winner Shane Victorino. The 1995 Cleveland Indians -- with Albert Belle, Kenny Lofton and Manny Ramirez -- were the last team to have its entire outfield on an All-Star team. Beltran, also an elected starter, has been on the disabled list since June 22 with a bone bruise on his right knee. Werth becomes the 26th first-time All-Star on the rosters for the 80th Midsummer Classic, to be played Tuesday at St. Louis' Busch Stadium. According to MLB, any injured starter will be replaced by the top vote-getter on the player ballot who's not a starter. The Rockies' Brad Hawpe received 394 votes, more than the D-backs' Justin Upton's 277 and the 156 received by the Astros' Hunter Pence. [emphasis added.]

AND he picked Howard, electing to take a third backup first baseman who's getting on base at a .330 clip and doesn't play great D instead of, say, another backup 3B or OF.) Pablo, Mark Reynolds, and Matt Kemp-- who actually plays CF-- are probably wishing they knew someone. Hawpe, btw, doesn't play center. So I'm guessing Victorino starts.

You know, Werth and Victorino -- as much as I hate both of them -- are better than anything we're putting in the outfield right now, and quite frankly, if they'll help the Mets get home field advantage in the World Series, I'm all for it, especially if they seriously injure themselves while they do it.
