It's Randy Wolf at Livan Hernandez as the the series comes down to one game. Wolf has been pitching well. Hernandez has not. I'm tossing that out the window.

Damn Dodgers with all their pretty good hitters arriving at the same time. I can't get 'em straight. I picture Ethier as the man of color and Matt Kemp as the blancito. In fact, it's largely the opposite (Ethier being Franco-Mexican-American).

Ethier 4/10/1982
Martin 2/15/1983
Loney 5/7/1984
Kemp 9/23/1984

Nice little nucleus Joe Torre arrived in time for.

James Loney, to me, is the name a longtime roleplaying NBA forward. I picture a so-named guy with long limbs, but not enough meat on his bones for big forward and not enough shooting range for small forwards. He's great off the bench for shutting down the smaller guys, but you can only spot him against the bigger ones. He's also good for a big rebound, but gets in foul trouble if he spends too much time in the paint.

Anyhow, speaking of guys who belong in another sport, Jonathan Broxton hasn't appeared in this series. Let's keep that going. The good way.

By narrowing the gate to the bullpen?

Cora's batting eighth. Which means Jerry has given in to the persuasive power of reason.

With Livan in the lineup I'd hit Cora 9th. And that's only because he can't hit 10th.

F. Martinez to the DL (after, what, a week?), and back, by popular demand, you know him, you love him, you can't live without him, ladies and gentleman...

A. Reyes!

Oh, fuck him. Jesus.

What is wrong with the Mets?

Well, whatever they did. They needed an infielder.

JCL: great response--it made me laugh (perhaps to avoid from crying that A. Reyes is the best call-up that our team can come up with).

Maybe A. Reyes hadn't actually left the building after getting sent back the other day so this was easier......I'm clutching for a reason.

Perhaps either field gangsta Manuel or chief gangsta Minaya is a "Wire" fan?

(All proper daps to Bodie.)

In pregame interview with Wayne Hagin, Murph was asked about having conversations with baserunners at first. He explained that he won't say much beyond "nice at-bat" or "nice swing" and then it's up the baserunner to "conversate".

Ladies and gentlemen, a verb is born. Or perhaps bornated.

Dodgers hang four on the Mets in the first.......I've gone to games where I am a bit late and you walk in and see that many runs on the board ,it's depressing to say the least.

Turned radio on in bottom of first. "I couldn't have missed much," I thought. First thing I hear is, "The Mets have been forced to play several players out of position this year, and Nick Evans isn't a leftfielder."

Oh.

Turned on radio in bottom of second. Howie and Wayne were discussing the 1985 26-7 loss to the Phils. I thought, "Holy Gorman, it's got to be, like, 11-1 if they're talking about this."

6-1 felt a little less bad for it. So thanks, guys.

6-2 now.

Hey look, we're getting some knocks off this fish. But Santos = very bad.

And that Furcal double's why I like the Pagan-Reed-Church (or Reed-Pagan-Church) alignment for our SHaMs.

Oh fuck another casual play in the infield costs us. Bad call but still...

Nice snag by Castillo, but a little relaxed on the toss to Cora to double up Furcal. Still, the inning should be over. 2nd-base ump-- Hirschbeck?-- fucked that up.

Posted

That wasn't a casual play. Castillo had to wait until Cora got there.
Everything was perfect IMO except the call. ('nother story w/Sheffield in RF).

And I know it especially seems this way when you're losing, but it sure seems like we're getting dicked on a lot of calls lately.

Castillo seemed to soft-toss it, and Cora took his time getting over. It was closer than either guy imagined seemed to me.

of course we get a gift back after Livan fucks it into 2 runs.

Um, I like Misch and all, and I'm the first one to warn against overreacting to splits... but might it not be a good idea to avoid popping in a lefty when the Dodgers kick the living crap out of lefties?

Fugly. Giving up hope.

Christ, why couldn't Livan just stay in to play first? At least HE's getting good at-bats against Wolf.

Posted

Is it me or am I imagining this. It seems the Dodgers are hitting the ball hard -- not necessarily out of the park but driving the ball on a line and with a purpose. Mets just seem to be dinking and dunking. More often than not lazy flies, rolling over ground balls, etc.

Oh look, Jerry's looking to Stoke the fire with Brian.

Getting weird noises out of one of the rear speakers, like fake fart noise.

mgim: Fugly. Giving up hope <<<

It's been over for weeks, we watch because that's what we do.
