Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Any plans to commemorate 1969 this year?
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Not loving the idea of a shirt with "69" on it for rather obvious reasons, but they already reprinted the yearbook, twice, and reprinted the WS program, so not much else they could give away. Cards maybe, but I guess its possible they got too many complaints about the short shrift they had with the Topps packs from 2006.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 A better question, I wonder if there are any plans for a 2000 NL Champs reunion next year? They generally do for the 1973 guys, so I wonder if the 2000 guys will get the same treatment?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Looks like a good job rounding them up. Hopefully Ryan, a no-show at the closing of Shea, follows throughAnnounced among those scheduled to be in attendance:Starting Pitchers:Jim McAndrewGary GentryJerry Koosman*Tom SeaverDeceased: Don Cardwell (2008)Relief Pitchers:Jack DiLauroAl JacksonNolan RyanRon TaylorDeceased: Danny Frisella (1977), Cal Koonce (1993), Tug McGraw (2004)Missing: Jesse Hudson (2 IP), Bob Johnson (1 2/3 IP), Les F. Rohr (1 1/3 IP)Catchers:Duffy DyerJerry GroteJ.C. MartinInfielders:Ed CharlesWayne GarrettBud HarrelsonEd KranepoolBobby PfeilAl WeisDeceased: Donn Clendenon (2005)Missing: Ken Boswell (405 PA), Kevin Collins (43 PA), Bob Heise (13 PA)Outfielders:Rod GasparCleon JonesRon SwobodaDeceased: Tommie Agee (2001)Missing: Jim Gosger (16 PA), Amos Otis (102 PA), Art Shamsky (349 PA)Staff:Yogi BerraJoe PignatanoEddie YostDeceased: Gil Hodges (1972), Rube Walker (1992)* Courts permitting. So it seems to me the biggest names on the outside looking in are Shamsky and Boswell. It'd be kind of funny if Shamsky doesn't show up, as he's New York-based and shows up for a lot of 1969-type events. Will commitments to the Modi'in Miracle keep him away?
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Interesting about Ryan. He declined the 25th anniversary in 1994 (and so did Seaver), and wasn't at the 1999 one (which was the last time the Mets actually staged an Old Timers Game). Most of that crew is also appearing in an area card show that weekend as well. I'll go back and check the announcement for Boswell and Shamsky.

No, just saying I'm sure the Mets promotions department will get some complaints about it.You actually can't do "69" as a customizable NFL jersey, which prompted me to say that I wasn't loving the idea.
