Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I was going to save this for an off-day, but the next one is July 6 and I may be on Jury Duty that day, so here goes. I used the search function to see if this had been asked before, but couldn't find anything like it. Thanks to Ben Grimm and his awesome UMDB for help in confirming the answer. The question:Only two players have started at least one game for the Mets in every position in the batting order - 1 thru 9. Who dey?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 1. Eric Valent2. Derek BellPS -- total guesses.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Benny Agbayani.Timoniel Perez.Jay Payton.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Edgy gets Benny, the other three are not correct. One down, one to go. Mr Cerf?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Negatory to Wiggy, and an 'up your nose with a rubber hose' to Horshack. I hadn't thought - Ben's good deed means he can't play. I think he should get some parting gifts anyway.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I can make obviously wrong guesses though, can't I?Is it... Rusty Staub?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 You certainly can, and as you said Mr. Staub is obviously wrong.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 d'oh! Already guessed. OK, not Wiggy. How about... Matt Franco?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Wiggy did 2 thru 8, but never 1 or 9 as a Met.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 was thinking Matt Franco too , I'm guessing this player played under Bobby Valentine.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Franco was the same as Wiggy, 2-8 only. We'll get to Dietrich when we talk about switch hitters.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Well, it has to be someone in the DH era, and it has to be someone who is light-hitting and/or fast enough to bat ninth, but with enough pop to bat fourth on a day when the big guys are resting, like in September.Shinjo?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Shinjo it is. A ton of guys hit 1-8 before interleague, but only Agbayani and Shinjo had the combination of being not painfully slow and powerful enough to bat fourth in some pretty bad lineups, yet still lousy enough to bat last. Thanks for playing.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 If Edgy's gonna scratch Timo, I'll guess him.Doh...Edgy's so smart.
