metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Perfect....Up and at 'em boys....
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I can't quite explain why, but when this thread reminded me of another Mets-Yankees clash today, I thought of this poem by Shel Silverstein:]The GeneralsSaid General Clay to General Gore,"Oh must we fight this silly war?To kill and die is such a bore.""I quite agree," said General Gore.Said General Gore to General Clay,"We could go to the beach todayAnd have some ice cream on the way.""A grand idea," said General Clay.Said General Clay to General Gore,"Well build sand castles on the shore."Said General Gore, "Well splash and play.""Lets leave right now," said General Clay.Said General Gore so General Clay,"But what if the sea is closed today? And what if the sands been blown away?""A dreadful thought," said General Clay.Said General Gore to General Clay,"Ive always feared the oceans spray,And we may drown!" "Its true, we may.It chills my blood," said General Clay.Said General Clay to General Gore,"My bathing suit is slightly tore.Wed better to on with our war.""I quite agree," said General Gore. Then General Clay charged General GoreAs bullets flew and cannons roared. And now, alas! there is no moreOf General Clay or General Gore.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 That about says it...Or as an embarrased Washingon Post writer Boswell went overtime into the anthem interviewing Earl Weaver, Weaver responded "Don't worry kid, we do this every day"
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 The team I love1. Luis Castillo, 2B2. Alex Cora, SS3. Carlos Beltran, CF4. David Wright, 3B5. Gary Sheffield, DH6. Fernando Tatis, 1B7. Ryan Church, RF8. Omir Santos, C9. Fernando Martinez, LF- Fernano Nieve, PThe team I despise with every fiber of my being1. Derek Jeter, SS2. Johnny Damon, LF3. Mark Teixeira, 1B4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B5. Robinson Cano, 2B6. Jorge Posada, C7. Hideki Matsui, DH8. Melky Cabrera, RF9. Brett Gardner, CF- Andy Patoot, PThe Yankees have another guy named Melky (Mesa) playing at Charleston. I had never heard that name before Cabrera made the majors, but for all I know it's relatively common in the D.R. I thought it might be a nickname, but Baseball Reference lists it as Cabrera's full name.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Chris Rose currently tongue-bathing Jeter. Fortunately, the sound seems to be out, except for the little whooshes that accompany the incessant graphics.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Every season Joe Buck's head looks more like a 60 watt bulb.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Buck and McCarver giving Castillo a more than fair treatment, offering excuses that Castillo himself would not take (wind), and giving him credit for standing up in the clubhouse yesterday and again today.Meanwhile, Cora singles and moves up. Wright with an RBI shot.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Wright puts a good swing on it but it's an atom ball to left. Meanwhile, Nieve is throwing some early gas.I write 'meanwhile' a lot. I should do soap opera summaries.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Nieve looks like he's got some good stuff, throws hard.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Sheffield gets jammed and lofts a pop-up to left that Damon catches against the wall.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Church bunts Tatis to second, making the second out. Huh?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Omir bag of shells! Santos hits one out to left, and it's 2-0 Mets.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Santos hits a home run after a pointless bunt from Church.....2 zip
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Everyone is saying they've never seen a game end like last night's. I remember listening to the end of this one in the car as I was going in to work the midnight shift. Pretty close.http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=3889
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Mets getting good swings against Andy Patoot. Martinez and Castillo set up Cora, 2 on, 2 out, but Jeter actually picks one to his left and Teixiera scoops the throw.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Lest you think this is a brand-new Met team-- healed by collective trauma, harder in the broken places (to borrow from Hemingway)-- we're at 5 LOB and counting.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Up 2-1, but it feels like they're losing.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Yes, because 1-hitters in which the Mets have the lead really suck.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 God I hate it when Beltran singles and Wright doubles and Sheffield drives in a run with a single. SUCKS!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 3-1 and runners on the corners after a RiSP-y hit.Love it kids.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Tatis. Speed demon.See Tatis hustle? That was a result of my little imaginary speech last night.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Now that LOSER Tatis drives in another run. It's painful how well this team is doing in this game. I HATE them!
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Sheff slaps the ball like it stole his money, and it's 3-1.Fernando beats it into the dirt, and it's just as effective. 4-1, guys we love.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 WP: because 1-hitters in which the Mets have the lead really suck <<<Hey, don't get cranky with me ... I'm generally in your camp rooting-wise.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Buck is almost going out of his way to be nice to the Mets, exactly the opposite of what I expected from his usual frat-boy shtick. Maybe he feels like it would be piling on.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 KC gets hit with a bit of shrapnel from the WP-Soupy duel.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Now that DEADBEAT Santos hits a double to drive in another run. With a 5-1 lead this game is really getting away from us.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Mets sucking not.Omir punishing his former organization.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Santos with the big hit and a bit of baserunning buffoonery. Oh well.
