Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 By the way, I'm ag'in' lifting Maine there. I'd at least let him give up a baserunner in the seventh before lifting him. Cut the pen some slack.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Maine to Ollie: Dumbass. THIS is how you're supposed to pick up your team.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I like triples.I don't think Maine is in a position to call anybody a dumbass.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 As Gary keeps reminding us....that's eight triples and eleven home runs for the Mets this season.....I love how CF is playing so far.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I don't mean to be Bobby Bringdown here, but even when this team wins going away it can be hard to watch. A four-pitcher 2-hitter? An opposing starter getting tagged for 6 in the first and then getting away with 5 scoreless?Sheesh. I wanted to kill myself seeing Putz and Rodriguez throw those 10-minute innings.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Rodriguez hadn't pitched since Friday , if that means anything. I thought jerry should have sent Maine out for the seventh.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 So he "needed to get his work in." Did all three of their top bullpen options so need?

I f he wanted to get Johnny some good vibes then send him back out there.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 ="metirish"]Rodriguez hadn't pitched since Friday , if that means anything. I thought jerry should have sent Maine out for the seventh. Not only that, but we'll be seeing it a bit more-- apparently, Jerry's got a gotta-work-the-gaskets guy re: the endgame guys (not in high-leverage/non-save situations, mind you, but "just because"). From Friday's press conf:"For not having been on the mound for the number of days (Rodriguez) missed, his velocity was higher than I have seen before. When a guy feels that strong, hes not as commanding as he would like to be."Is it possible to include a bullpen-management aptitude test when this club next hires a manager?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Well, the idea is to get him out while the positive is still a positive. There's a benefit to that, but I think well too much of is made of it when you won't send a guy out there with a five run lead. Let him give up a runner or so before pulling him and letting him exit to applause.Six innings and 94 pitches is not a workday. Pitching well but exiting with a third of the game to play is scarcely getting your job done.He lasted no longer than the guy who gave up a hex in the first inning.

It's not like every other manager won't throw a low-leverage inning to his closer if he's had three days off, but, again, I just think Manuel wll overdid it here.
