Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 The Snooze today proclaimed football season over and devoted several pages to a "29 days till spring training" section including a back-page feature on Beltran and his annual declaration that the Mets have to put the past behind them and go have a good season. The headlines promised he'd rip Billy Wagner, and I was looking forward to that, but it wasn't too bad overall.Nice photos though, he looks like a badass in fatigues.[url:2do8bv9h]http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2009/01/14/2009-01-14_swing_training_carlos_beltran_is_gearing.html[/url:2do8bv9h]Oh, and a typically insightless column from John Harper advocating the Mets trrade Brad Holt to the MFYs for Nady.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I saw that and Harper immediately backpedaled, saying that scouts love Holt and maybe it would be a bad trade, but at least it's something to talk about. How inane, proposing a trade and then immediately saying it's no good.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Yeah I thought he was going to rip the Phillies and Wagner but he didn't which I thought was fine , no need for ripping the Phillies just go and beat them.I read the first paragraph of Harper and turned the page. I probably dislike his stuff more than any other writer.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Looks like Carlos opted not to wear an inaugural season patch on his Old Navy pocket T.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 ]I leave (what happened) to him.I take it "(what happened)" is edit-speak for something unprintable, and not just because he probably said it in Spanish.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Good time for an article - cuz I think today is the halfway mark of the abyss.WS ended on Oct 28, so that means we've made it through:- the final 3 days of October- 30 days hath November- 31 more in December- and 14 more in January3 + 30 + 31 + 15 = 79and we still have:- 16 more in Jan- 28 in Feb- 31 in March- and the first 4 days of April until Opening Day (always capitalize that phrase children)16 + 28 + 31 + 4 = 79
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I consider the off-season as having started on September 28, so we're well past the half-way mark.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 And if you start in September and only count until pitchers & catchers report, or until the WBC well then, hell, it's practically Spring now.Who cares if it's 10 degrees out - get that mitt oiled up.
