Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Yeah, that's what got me thinking about who his backup is.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Murphy and/or Evans are clearly the 3B backups if it comes to the unthinkable but there's no way they're benching Wright at this point, even for a game.Yeah he may have looked like shit in Washington and is 1 for his last 18 but he also had 12 hits (5 for XB) in the 18 ABs before that.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Evans? Really?I again maintain that they'd use Argenis there (or Martinez) before they'd put Murphy or Evans there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Well, the other thing is, what if David has to come out of the game in the NLDS or beyond? At that point, you won't (I don't think) have Argenis Reyes or Ramon Martinez on the roster.I guess it would have to be Murphy or Castillo. But then again, Castillo is their only second baseman if Argenis doesn't make the post-season roster.Hopefully Easley will be healthy... otherwise we might very well see Argenis in October.** As always, should we be so fortunate to qualify for postseason play.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Both Evans & Murphy were drafted as 3rd baseman and played at least some of their minor league ball at that spot.Considering that I don't want Argenis's bat at 2B I certainly don't want it at 3rd - and if we're talking about post-season I don't even want to see him on the roster unless forced to by Easley's absence.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Marlon Anderson plays 2B and 3B if I recall, albeit not that well.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Couple of thoughts:1. My understanding was that it's extremely unlikely that Easley would be back for the postseason (or certainly not the division series).2. Assuming #1 is true, I think we're unfortunately destined to have Argenis on the post-season roster.
