Red Sox and Orioles going into extra innings (tied at 4) at Fenway.

Marlins have beaten the Braves, but Florida no longer worries me. (At least, not at the moment.)

The real important game is Phillies at DC tonight at 7:10.

BoSox get 2 in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, then score the winning run on an error on a sac bunt to beat the Os 5-4, adding further pressure on the MFYs.

Other games involving teams in races:

ChiSox top the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians", and St. Lou leads Arizona 2-0 in the 4th.

Edit: Ooops. BG beat me to this. Great minds think alike I guess.

I'm declaring this the official OoTS of this day

Phils score two in the first, the Nationals tie it up in the bottom of the inning.

Phillies add a run in the third, leading 3-2 with Washington batting in the bottom of the third.

Yankees have jumped out to a 5-1 lead against the Rays.

6-5 Nats - yeah this Washington feed is funny to listen to.

1 out with two on and a pitching change.

Belliard!

9-7 Washington is your final.

The Mets have a three game lead.

Those Nats scared me a little there.

And Werth fans for the final out!

Final score: Nationals 9, Phillies 7.

A VERY good day.

A very good week so far too. The Mets playing the Brewers while the Phils played the Nationals was very favorable to Philadelphia, but the Mets gained two games in the standings and dropped the magic number by four.

Excellent!

EDIT: They dropped the magic number by FIVE over the last three days.

Meanwhile the Astros have been en fuego ever since they fucked us up in that series last month. 8 in a row including a sweep of the Cubs. If they gain one more game on Milwaukee the newspaper will have to start including them in the Wild Card standings (they are 5.5 GB; St, Louis, the last team listed, is 4.5 GB).

Not for nothing but the Cubs have gotten bad health nooz on Zambrano and Harden in the last few days. Is it possible they peaked too early in the same way Houston is peaking too late.

I'm beginning to see some sunshine for the Mets, is what I'm trying to say.

Yeah, me too. We're looking pretty good for the main prize, the division title*, but the Wild Card is become a more viable fallback option.

*We'll have a much clearer view of the division situation on Monday morning, barring rainouts.

The Mets and Phillies have no common off-days for the remainder of the season, so a rainout on Friday or Saturday will almost certainly mean a separate-admission doubleheader on Sunday with the first game starting at 1:10 PM.

A rainout of the Sunday night game would be made up (if necessary) on Monday, September 29.

Hopefully it wouldn't be necessary.

That would kind of mess up the Shea countdown though, wouldn't it? It would have to be something like 12 (or 13, if necessary).

And the last regular-season game at Shea might not turn out to be the last regular-season game at Shea.
