Half-baked KTE - Mets vs Pirates Make-up Game

The Pirates were down in Philadelphia yesterday, and the Mets are in New York. So, whaddya say the Pirates grab a quick flight up and play a ballgame at Shea on their way home?

Unfortunately, the CPF isn't going to know their enemy very well this afternoon - I went camping this weekend, got home late yesterday, started writing the Pirates makeup KTE, and fell asleep at the keyboard.

This may be a good sign, as when I did the real Pirates KTE in April, the result was that Ollie got his butt handed to him in what could very well be considered the worst loss of the season to date (Buccos 13, Mets 1, April 30 at Shea).

Don't know if the game will even be played today - it's raining pretty hard right now, at least in north Jersey.

I can tell you the following:

Zach Duke is 2-0 lifetime aganst the Mets, with a 1.77 ERA.

Jack Wilson is back at short. His glove is as solid as always. His bat is weak as always.

Brandon Moss is starting in left.

Andy LaRoche, Jose Bautista, and Chris Gomez, all right handed hitters, are splitting starts at 3B. Andy is, indeed, Adam's brother (and Dave's son). He was the Dodger organization's Minor League Player of the Year in 2005, but his stock appears to have been slowly declining since. He's a strong OBP guy who averaged a little better than one BB in every seven plate appearances over his last three minor league seasons; he didn't do much (offensively or defensively) in 44 games at 3B and a bunch of pinch hitting appearances with the Dodgers in 2007 and 2008.

Adam LaRoche can hit, but he's doing it on a rehab assignment in the South Atlantic League right now.

Nate McLouth can hit right here in the majors. So can Ryan Doumit.

I'll get a real KTE together in time for the series in Pittsburgh that starts this Friday.

Guess the attendance.

I say, 7,234 paid. More like 1,500 in attendance.

They've drawn surprisingly well for day games this year (paid, at least).

Add to the fact that there are plenty of people who didn't know they could exchange/refund their tickets from the rained out game and paid attendance will be closer to 40,000.

My experience is weekeday makeups have been disasters at the gate, because it gets no advance interest, not appearing on the schedule. A Monday makeup with a last-place team in town for one day, in the midst of a downpour, day after a deflating loss, tells me Gotham will collectively shrug their shoulders and say, "Maybe some other time."

I don't believe anything Matt Yallof says.
