With the way Delgado has been hitting lately, do the mets pick up his option?

it's a 16Mil option or a 4mil buyout. so in other words, do we give him a 12 mil option. or make a run for texiera. is delgado option #1, #2, or.....further down the list?

Talk to me in November.

If he has a 1200 OPS for the rest of the season the Mets would have no choice but to pick it up.

See how the next two months go, but even if he cools down some and ends up with reasonable numbers, I think he has to get considered.

If they're going to look for a long-term solution from outside, and Texieria is available, they may not want to pass him up. But if they think Mike Carp or Ike Davis or someone else might be ready in 2010, then maybe you keep Delgado around to keep the spot warm for one year.

I'm glad he's making it so that his buyout is no longer a no-brainer.

Maybe I'm getting his option confused with someone else's, but I thought this was one where they had to contractually decide well in advance and therefore had already declined the pick it up.

If that's not the case ... then talk to me at the end of the year.
It would be dumb to re-up him based on 3-4 weeks of revived hitting. Plus let's see what the other options are: FAs; are Carp and/or Evans ready or are they dealt away in a trade?.
Lotsa factors at play.

I looked this up a while ago, but I think the option can still technically automatically vest if Delgado is NL MVP, NLCS MVP and World Series MVP.

"And?" or "or?"

(What a weird-looking sentence that is.)

I can see an automatic vesting for NL MVP, but the post-season series MVP awards are based on four to seven games.

Upon further review, it appears he'd need to get the WS MVP and NLCS MVP -- OR -- WS MVP and at least 6th place in the NL MVP voting.

Delgado already has 5 points from finishing 6th in the 2005 NL MVP voting.

Here's the info:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1981820

]Delgado's contract calls for salaries of $4 million this year, $13.5 million in 2006, $14.5 million in 2007 and $16 million in 2008. The Marlins have a $12 million option for 2009 with a $4 million buyout, but the option would become guaranteed at $16 million if Delgado accumulates 30 points under a system in which he gets 10 points for winning the MVP award down to one point for finishing 10th, 20 points for the World Series MVP award and 10 for the league championship series MVP award.

If Delgado ends up as NLCS MVP and World Series MVP, then I'm for reupping him and giving him an extra millions of Wilpon's money as a thank you.

And re-signing Ray Knight while we're at it.

Valadius - "You know, Ray Knight hosts the pre-game and post-game shows for the Nationals."

And he could likely suit up and out hit Marlon Anderson.
