G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 On the birthday of former Mets manager Joe Torre and the late Mets fan Sandra Prince, the Mets attempt to stay in first place and tie a team-record winning streak.METSReyes SSAnderson LFWright 3BBeltran CFEasley 2BDelgado 1BTatis RFSchneider CMaine PREDSBruce CFKeppinger SSGriffey RFPhillips 2BDunn LFEncarnacion 3BVotto 1BBako CArroyo PLet's Go Mets!
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Reds strike first on an ugly solo HR by Jay Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce.
Guest KC Guests Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Mets down 1-sniffle through three on a Bruce home run off the end of thebat away and flicked over the right center wall.Bring the wood in the fourth, for Sandra!
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Double-walk-double for the Mets w/ 1 out in the 4th.Tie game...opportunity for more...
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 11 Alive? Wow. I had $5 on "This one goes to Eleven."

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 This inning is a comedy of errors. Heads out of asses, boys.
Guest KC Guests Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 JCL: >>>First-ever (as far as I know) all-odd uni number lineup in team history<<<Toss up between what's cooler. The fact, or that you cull that fact from some Mets numbers database.
Guest KC Guests Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 They march out Cordero again for slappin' ... he gets a quick out.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Well that was pretty shitty. I guess Tatis isn't gonna hit the 3-run homer every time we need it.More concern for another lousy outing by Maine.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 thats ok. we'll go for another streak starting tommorow.this was the least painful loss in awhile, i hope all our losses follow 10 game winning streaks.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 I like this thread title. I like the clever reference to an obscure and by now, scarcely remembered jingle. But wasn't "11 Alive" Yankee territory?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 I think of it as Odd Couple/Honeymooners territory.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 ="G-Fafif"]11 Alive debuted as WPIX's theme the same fall season "The Odd Couple" entered syndication. The was another 11 Alive in Atlanta around the same time...spooky!Fats Waller would commonly sell the rights to a song he created and then go across the hall and sell the same rights to the same song to another publisher. Maybe Fats wrote the 11 Alive theme.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 I don't associate "11 Alive" with the Yankees in any way at all.During those years, I watched The Odd Couple and The Honeymooners on Channel 11.I never watched the Yankees.

I'm a big Honeymooners and Odd Couple fan, too.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 My dopey neighbors tried to get themselves on TV by bringing a sign to MFY Stadium reading: THE YANKEES ARE ALLIVE (sic) BECAUSE 11 IS ALLIVE (sic)
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 "11 Alive" doesn't resonate MFY with me, even though it took me several years to associate Channel 11 with the Mets. Just a matter of semantics, I suppose.Channel 9 had a slogan in the fall of '73: The Great Combination, New York and Channel 9. The extent of that great combination was the Mets, Bowling for Dollars and a coveted VHF frequency.
