nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 7 walks and a hbp to 46 batters isn't good, 9 k's doesnt quite cut itthe real problem is that the 24 guys that neither struck out, got on base via balls (or hbp), or homered are 12-24 (with one reaching via error). and they've all been singles. that BABIP will come down.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I think I'm reading about BABiP way too much. The notion that it's a factor beyond a pitcher's control is still one I don't buy.

One factor I'd like to see get more attention in this regard is the isolated power (slugging-BA) that batters have against a pitcher. As a measure of extra-base hits, that should tell you how hard he's being hit, and that's a factor of BABIP that a pitcher generally does control.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 for those balls in play, is he getting a lot of ground balls that are finding holes, fly balls that outfielders aren't catching up to, or are they line drives?

He's brought in to face specific batters, so these are situations in which he's meant to succeed.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 This would be a good time to improve these figures, doncha think?
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Gameday shows Howard standing out there in the batter's box, getting soaked while everyone else has left the field. Advantage Feliciano, I think.
