Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 First pitch scheduled from 8:40 as a rain delay has um, delayed us.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Damn, that's a rather ugly line up. Opposing pitchers only have three or four hitters that should seriously concern them, then they just have to avoid making mistakes to the others. If they can do that, a pitcher can hold this line up in check.Tonight, the Cardinals just need to be careful with Reyes, Wright, and Church. The rest can generally be handled if you just make good pitchers and avoid mistakes. Pelfrey and the pen (gulp) had best be on tonight.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Endy scores on Delgado's fly ball. 1-0 Mets in the top of the first.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 If Delgado had struck out, I think that Wayne Hagin would have done a reverse-Milton Bradley by leaving the dugout to attack a player. Hagin was very critical, and rightly so, of Delgado waiving at breaking balls out of the strike zone on the first two pitches. Nothing wrong with what he said but you'd never hear it from Sterling, Waldman, YES, or just about anywhere else.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Senor I-95 at the plate. Come on Anderson, do something.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Not exactly splashing them off the walls are we?It's like a Yanqui inning.

Too often he sounds like he's trying to entertain me, instead of letting the game be the entertainment.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 You know that fake the pitchers do w/runners on first and third that they never fall for? My son's HS summer team, which is 0-10-2, fell for it. The runner from first broke when the pitcher faked toward 3d, the pitcher got the runner from first going to 2d and when the pitcher threw to 2d, the runner from 3rd broke and the other team got him at the plate. Good times!
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 In hagin's defense, an awful lot of the Mets games aren't all that entertaining of late.

Sometimes I wish he'd just relax. I wonder if he was like that in St. Louis and Colorado (and if so, is that why he was fired from both places).
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Pelfrey strands two Cardinals. 3-0 Mets after an inning.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Pelfrey helps his cause with a 2-out RBI single, and Reyes' (Jose, not the newbie) clears the bases with a 3-RBI single. That's a nice 2-out rally!Endy follows up with a double, and we're up to 9-0 Mets in the third!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 They're doing it to us again, building our hopes up: we're pissed about last night, and look what they do tonight! And this is w/o Beltran.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I guess I should talk smack about the line up more often.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Holy moly. Nice to see them put one away early, for once. And Big Pelf's got the filthies tonight.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Yeah, no kidding. A lot of the hits we got were some real cheapies. The real story is that Pelfrey is turning in another excellent start.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Nice. Stupid Yadier grounds into the routine 6-4-3.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 One of the most promising aspects of this season has been the maturation of Mike Pelfrey. He has finally started to fulfill promise of his potential during his last 5-6 starts. His development is key for the Mets future.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Delgado with the no-doubter to right field and it's 11-0.For all his faults he can still turn on a bad pitch, can't he?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Can't figure out why we haven't pulled Reyes and Wright at this point.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Well they have pulled Wright (which may have been on account of a tweaked back).Maybe they'll pull Reyes for Reyes in another inning or two.Reyes tied Mookie's club record with his triple.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Will we see Reyes in for Reyes (or is A. Reyes only a 2B)?Aguila should go in for Church (who is supposed to be getting tomorrow off against a lefty).Information on A. Reyes posted in the thread "Dark Horse II"--he can play SS but he's primarily a 2B.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Wright came out -- he was ducking under a line drive while on first and seemed to hurt himself somehow. Waiting on what the deal is.... they're saying maybe his back.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 We have an Argenis (Are-HAIN-ous) Reyes sighting wearing #4I thought they may slide Easley over to SS and pull Jose but they pulled Easely instead.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Howie Rose just ran through some of the Mets that wore 29. He might have a copy of [u:73a7c3f514]MBTN [/u:73a7c3f514]in the press box.
