Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JUNE 2008 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for June 2008 is CARLOS BELTRAN. This is the fifth time that Carlos has been Player of the Month, and his second consecutive win. Carlos hit .276 and slugged .533 in June, and led the Mets with 7 home runs and 16 walks. His 21 runs batted in were second to David Wright (24) and his 20 runs scored were second to Jose Reyes (26). Beltran's 29 hits tied him for second place, with Wright, behind Reyes' 36. Carlos Delgado, who finished third in the overall voting, also had some good run-production numbers, despite his .229. Delgado had 6 home runs and 20 runs batted in, with a .476 slugging percentage. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for June 2008 is JOHAN SANTANA. This is the second time that Santana was Pitcher of the Month; he also won in April of this year. Santana won only one of five decisions, but led the Mets in ERA (2.27), innings (39.2) and strikeouts (38). And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is DUANER SANCHEZ. Sanchez appeared in 13 games, pitched 15 innings, and had an ERA of 3.60. He had one win and no losses in June. He's a surprise winner over Aaron Heilman, who pitched 14 innings over 14 games, with an 0-1 record and a stellar 0.64 ERA. Heilman received Schaefer points in 12 of the 14 games in which he pitched, 8 of which were Mets losses. Sanchez received points in 11 of his 13 games, and the Mets won seven of those 11 games. Sanchez' ERA for June was inflated by two bad outings on consecutive games (June 8 in San Diego and June 10 at Shea against Arizona) in which he gave up 5 earned runs in 1.1 innings. Omitting those two games, Sanchez' June ERA was 0.68. Sanchez is the third different Mets reliever to win Relief Pitch of the Month since the award was instituted this season. Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Great work as always, though Duaner's win illustrates the value of higher voter turnout in wins. Love the Sanchez card, 74s were my favorites cuz thst's the first year I really went after 'em.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 I don't think it's the higher turnout; even if we had a thousand voters for a game, there would still be no more than ten points awarded.I think it's more that voters tend to be more generous in wins. Like in last night's game, which so far only has two votes, neither voter awarded ten points. If it had been a 7-6 win instead of an 8-7 loss, I'm sure all ten points would have been awarded.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Delgado ahead of Reyes?!?! ... Wow!Way to fatten up on one game CarlosCD in June: .229/.308/.476 -- 6 HR; 13 XBHsJR in June: .305/.364/.475 -- 2 HR; 13 XBHs Edited July 3, 2008 by Guest
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 True.If he had gone 0 for 5 that day, he would have ended up in 7th place, somewhere between Maine and Perez.
