The Homecoming

  1. 1. The Homecoming

    • Poorly, particularly as a show of support for Randolph's alleged mistreatment.

Media will be watching closely tonight, possibly only for material to augment their pre-written stories.

I say Other.
I think it'll be a mixed bag, some loud booing and some loud cheering and some indifference and some lightning and thunder for flavor.

So far, I'm the only one who thinks he's going to get more shit than champagne tonight.

Where is my faith in Met fans?

What you don't know is that on NYC sportstalk radio today they are killing the Post for the fertilizer story.

The fans do what the talkies tell them to. Hence they will not boo based on the fertilizer comment.

They will call for the trading of Beltran to the Red Sox for J.D. Drew and Kevin Youkillis however.

I think the Post ran with that story because the Daily News looked so stupid with the Willie martyrdom stuff, and the Post can't stand not being the stupidest tabloid in town.

If that were so, we'd have all converted to the Yankees or San Francisco Giants long ago.

If it's raining, it will be indifferent. But if they play without delay, I'd expect something a little north of what Matt Lawton got, which was "oh, you're here." Maybe a little better than that because Mets fans who go to the trouble of schlepping out there on a Monday night want to have something to get behind for a change. If he comes out to make a pitching change in an inning that's going to hell, I don't think Jerry'll be viewed as a savior. He'll be the manager of a Mets team that's losing or blowing a game.

I picked other as I think there will be no change.

If anything goes bad, people will boo. Heilman will be booed. Wagner will probably be booed. When Delgado grounds out to second, he will be booed. Any poor performance by a reliever will be booed. Manuel will be booed for not doing something, or doing something too late, or doing something too early.

Jerry's going to get a good reception because he's in the honeymoon phase and, right now, fans are giving him credit for anything good that happens and ignoring everything else.
