Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 According to Newsday, that's how many miles the Mets have logged since May 1. David Wright, on top of that, has fessed up to not being able to sleep on planes. If Willie's job security was keeping him from getting any rest for Wright and Reyes (wild speculation), at least that's not an issue.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 That's a lot of miles!Hitting the west coast a lot but after this trio is that it for the regular season? How do those miles compare to other teams ?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 It does seem like they've been all over the place, but that number is really useless in a vacuum.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Oh, come on. It's got five digits. You know that the United States is more or less three thousand miles across. That's... some context. How about these quotes, including one quoting Willie as manager. We'll make it," Carlos Delgado said. "But it's probably one of the toughest stretch of trips I've had in my career. With all of the rainouts and doubleheaders, too. But you've got to do what you've got to do.""Nothing you can do about it really," manager Willie Randolph said. "It's a grueling schedule. It's unfair almost. You just try to tell the guys to make sure they stay hydrated, get their rest, eat well. All the things that are conducive to trying to adjust to the time change and getting ready to play a game."
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Right, but on West Coast trips, there's usually at least one other team in the division that's out there too -- like right now, Florida's in Seattle, and Atlanta is in Texas. There has to be more context than just what the Mets have done.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I know their pain...I can't sleep when David Wright is on a plane either.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 After this, though, they're done with the Left Coast for the season. After this weekend, their biggest adjustments will be to Central Time. It's rough now, but that seems like a nice payoff as we enter the summer months.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Who knows? Maybe they'll return to Anaheim in October.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Well, I was obviously thinking about the regular season....
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I know.I was just test-driving an optimistic outlook, to see how it felt.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 And they had a similarly nice payoff at the end of last season (not leaving the Eastern Time Zone the last six weeks IIRC).
