Not to quibble, but Pierre was safe as confirmed by several replays.

Give any major league team an extra out and oft times shit happens.

Heilman should NEVER PITCH in a tight spot ever!!!! Trade him ASAP...he is awful

At this point, I think just about everyone is in agreement that Heilman could
bring something in a trade (when he has a few good outings in a row) and that
a change of scenery slant could be sold to the right GM.

That ain't happening in early June.

Pierre was freakin' OUT.

Lotta men left on base tonight, blue was squeazin' Maine early on giving that
young kid a much different strike zone.

Hate Heilman all ya want ... did I mention Pierre was OUT?

LOB kill. The Mets have to capitalize on situations when they have someone on the ropes and tonight they just didn't do that.

Maine was effective after the first...

After rallying from 3-0 against this hotshot, I thought this had the makings of a Big Game ™ but it fell apart pretty quickly there in the latter third of the contest. Had the Mets pulled it out and been riding a four-game winning streak, it would have set a whole different tone heading into June.

Any word on Castillo?

Strained hip flexor

We could have survived a shaky Maine OR a messy Heilman tonight but not both.
Heilman continued his pattern of either being perfect or perfectly awful.

Hoping for a CH Park appearence backfired.

Problems tonight:

1. Nick Evans cannot hit major league pitching. Sorry. We need an outfielder, NOW!!! Kenny Lofton? Reggie Sanders? Sammy Sosa?

2. Fernando Tatis was exposed tonight for being unable to play the outfield. Yes, the double, but also the sliding catch in the game where he made it look hard but really he just had gotten a poor jump; also the ground-rule double in the first when he loafed it over towards the ball. Yes, he wouldn't have caught it, but he should've run harder. If it doesn't bounce over, it would've been a triple.

3. In the 8th, when we had a runner on 1st with no out, righties coming up and we *really* needed the ground ball, where was Smith? He didn't throw in the 'pen all night.

4. Another crappy start from Maine.
