Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Oh, that's right. He's going to play in the "Cathedral."
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Gary, Keith, and Ron are wayyyy up in the Upper Deck.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Oops, they're not as high us as I first thought. They seem to be just behind the box seats.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Howie Rose, Art Shamsky, and Ed Kranepool will all drop by during the telecast to say hi.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Alou needs the rest after his tiring 3 innings last night.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Gary said last night that they were told it was "not logistically feasable" to set them up that high.Still, even in the lower rows of the upper deck reserved you're sitting pretty damn high.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Yeah, those seats are pretty steep. They're actually sitting in the Upper Level box seats.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Pelfrey's retired his first six batters. No sign of the "softball girls" yet.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Beltran's got a diving basket catch to his credit already.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 And Wright adds a nice leaping grab of a line drive.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Ed Kranepool will put on the headphones for the bottom of the third.I hope he gets through his visit without suing anybody.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Kranepool thinks he was still with the Mets in 1980.It's strange that I know more about his tenure than he does.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Big Pelf got out of that jam. Did he really ditch the mouthpiece?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 This is his second start without the mouthpiece. What was the story on that thing? My guess is they were afraid he'd bite off his tongue.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Kranepool wants to get on the steroids so he can resume his career.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 He's pitched four innings, and Pelfrey has a no-hitter going.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Ed says he gave up his number 21 to Warren Spahn and didn't get any compensation from Spahn for it.Switched to 7 because the Mets were giving infielders the low numbers, and Ed picked 7 because he was a Mickey Mantle fan.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Ed: "Although I had some problems with Duke 'Schneider' he was helpful to me..."No follow-up question on what those problems might have been.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Gary mentions the no-hitter on the air, and Keith says, "You just shot the clown!"

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Weird.]The one Spring Training matter that carried into the season was the mouthpiece. Pelfrey had begun using it in college as a means of camouflaging his pitchers. He had been tipping his pitches by sticking out his tongue. The mouthpiece stopped that until this spring, when teammates told him he was tipping his pitches by chewing the mouthpiece on fastballs, but not breaking balls. You probably don't want him thinking about his tongue when he's pitching!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 The injury to the clown isn't mortal, as Pelfrey gets through five and is now more than half-way to his no-hitter.Mets need to get a run or two for him.(I don't post on other boards, but if I did I'd mention there, but not here, that the best way to win a game is to score more runs than your opponent. I hope that doesn't make me sound pessimistic.)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I don't usually participate in IGT's, and I guess that's a good thing, because when I'm here everyone else stays mostly silent!Art Shamsky has the headphone on and is chatting with the guys.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Rob Mackowiak. Sounds like an "I'm gonna break up a Met no-no" name.
