Mets have wasted a couple of good chances this game.

One would have thought the Mets would be stomping a mudhole in the Nats after last night, other than that first pitch it seems like last night didn't happen.

I see. I'm Tom Sturdivant. Or I should say: Tom Sturdivant <--- He was once a World Champion, too. He was one of baseball's best pitchers during the '56 & '57 seasons, but more so in 1956. He was a Met for three weeks in 1964 and pitched a few scorelesss innings in the famous Mets-Giants marathon extra inning game that featured a triple play against the Mets. Like too many of Casey's other players, the Mets would be the last Major League team Sturdivant would ever play for. Those Mets had a real niche for acquiring players on their very last legs.

Yeah. Cause all it takes for a team to stomp up the other team is them wanting to stomp the other team up. That's it. All they gotta do is wanna stomp up the other team. The other team never has any say-so in whether they're gonna get stomped up into a mudhole. Once the Mets figure this out, I bet they could go like 162-0 or something.

So it all really was Glavine's fault 9/27/2007? The Marlins being super pysched to destroy the Mets had NOTHING to do with how they came out like gangbusters that first inning, snuffing out any chance of the Mets doing anything that afternoon?

Lets go over the details:

The Mets go into tonight with

A) Their #2 starter going, who has been pitching very well this month

Anger because of the mudhole that got stomped into them last night, plus the antics of the Nats bench last night and

C) The fact that on paper the Mets should wipe the floor with the Nats, and all things being equal, the vaunted Met offense should be feasting on the young Lannan.

Therefore, yes, the recipie was there for a good old fashioned orange and blue ass whupping tonight.

[sarcasm] No. It was mostly all the Mets fault because they didn't want to win that game. In fact, before that game, the Mets voted in secrecy to allow the Marlins to stomp them into a mudhole. If you could replay that same game under the same conditions 1,000 times, the Marlins would stomp the Mets into the mudhole 1,000 more times. All because the Marlins wanted to. Wanna know why the '62 Mets lost 120 games? Because they wanted to. Figgy in AAA? He wants to be there.[/sarcasm]

Okay I get that you can't play the games if you aren't up, but lets not act like emotion doesn't play SOME part in a team winning and loosing.

Hell, thats why there are threads about the effects of booing on players.

Reyes seems like he's in one of those modes again where he decides beforehand whether he's going to swing at the pitch or not.
As a result, he's letting a lot of hitters' pitches go by on counts where he should be agressive and, instead, swinging at the pitcher's pitch too often.
