Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 In the Battle of the Huge Hole Now Left in the Rotation, I'm spotting propect Parnell ahead of retreads Knight and Stokes (who stays penbound). It's nice to get a Sean Green who spells his name with some respect.Reed is an interesting-looking fella --- a little like Joel Youngblood and a little like Darren Bragg. That's probably the player we're getting also.Acquired from SeattleTraded to SeattleAdded to Projected RosterRelief PitchersOutfield-ersStarting PitchersRelief PitchersInfieldersOutfield-ersStarting PitchersGreenPutzReedVargasHeilmanSmithCarpChavezParnellYour 2009 New York MetsStarting PitchersMaineNieseParnellPelfreySantanaDon Cardwell Memorial Savvy Veteran Starter Roster Spot
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 With Green replacing Smith, is it premature to name a memorial roster spot for side-armers after my hero Terry Leach?Or are they so rare, the spot may not be possible to keep filled? You decide.Later
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Oops.I guess when I first suggested the Donn Clendenon spot as "memorial" that's what it meant. But as other spots have been named, I didn't notice that they had been named for ex-Mets who had passed away.I just mentioned this as a place for sidearmers. But if it is for the dearly departed, it is highly premature.Later
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 In addition to the (two?) starting pitcher(s) we need, the bench sure looks like it could use some improvement:CastroAndersonReyesReedTatis or MurphyC'mon Omar. We can do better than that.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 They need to replace Anderson and Reyes. I read they are looking at Alex Cora and Nick Punto as backup IF options.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Time to cut A. Reyes loose. This ESPN article says in relevant part: Also Friday, the Mets decided not to offer 2009 contracts to right-hander Ambiorix Burgos and infielder Argenis Reyes. Both became free agents.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Adam Bostick is a festering sore on the face of the organization. Omar kept this easily replaceable journeyman on the roster, protected from the Rule V Draft. As a result, there was no room to protect catching prospect J. Flores and he was lost in the draft. Why is Bostick still here? On the chance that one day Omar MIGHT be able to say he made the right move? Bull feathers.Ain't gonna' happen.Get him outta' here already.Later
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 It wasn't intended to make sense. (And obviously it succeeded. )It was meant as a rant.I really don't want to see this guy again, sorta' like the way Sonny Corleone thought about "that strutz".Or the way one of the other CPF-ers feels about Marlon Anderson.Purely visceral.Later

Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 It's gonna be a strange camp this year with the WBC. I suspect there will be a lot more games than usual featuring players who will not be seen again once the team heads north.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Some more infill added yesterday. Kyle Snyder is a veteran of some dreadful Kansas City staves, who turned in a good season in 2007 when the Sawx moved him full-time to the bullpen.
