Does this really clear that much salary for the Cubs? Are they cutting costs to sell the team or to sign A-Rod? The future will tell.

No. According to Cot's Contracts, the Cubs are paying $2M of the $5M Jones will be making in 2008. Strange deal.

Villarreal to Astros. The Braves sent reliever Oscar Villarreal to the Astros on Friday for outfielder Josh Anderson. The versatile Anderson, 25, played all three outfield positions in 25 games for Houston and batted .358 (24-for-67). Villarreal, 26, was 2-2 with a 4.24 ERA in 51 games for Atlanta last season.
