Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 The Snooze today got hold of a Magic Quote from Omar Minaya and parlayed it into a hysterical front page: MEET THE METS! with a photo of A-rod looking especially insane. Here's Omar's MQ: "...he's one of the free agents in the market and we're looking at all free agents."Also:*Anderson 2-year deal announcement expected today (that's about twice as long as I'd like to commit to him but whatev)*Castillo, Castro and Posada all have the same agent, so lots of talking to them*Juan Padilla (who missed 07 with TJ surgery) cleared for action w/ no restrictions*Torreabla's agent to arrive today and MEET THE METS!*Cubs looking at Kaz Matsui*Rumors that AZ may trade Orlando Hudson? Hmmm...
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Newsday has Minaya with only token interest in Rodriguez and instead looking to deal for Joe Blanton, Jose Contreras or John Garland, or maybe all three. Sox apparently not high on Milledge. Also speaking to the agent for Carlos Silva. Omar continues to chat with LoDuca's agent, when asked if he was optimistic about bringing him back he said "I want to say yeah. We're in discussions with the agent. I always like to think that we're optimistic."Posada told Newsday yesterday that he has heard from the Mets.]"We don't need to fill third base," Minaya said. "I'm telling you today, we're very happy with David Wright at third base."
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I'd like to see Padilla at least work out with a winter team, and maybe log a handful of innings. Sanchez and Padilla available last season could have made the Mets a different team.Cliff Floyd and the Cubs appear to be parting ways. Cliff is considering retirement, as his father is gone and he has to look after his sister's kids as well as his own family and his widowed mum.I think he moves them all to a Florida compound and plays one more year for a Florida team.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I love Castro and all but the guy has missed huge chunks of 2 straight seasons with back injuries. I mean, that's great if you're Mike DiFelice but it hasn't helped us at all.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Daily News says we're declining Valentin's and Lawrence's options.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I'm going to miss Brian Lawrence. No, wait, that's not what I meant to say. What I really mean is, I'll always remember him for getting that start against Washington right after the second Phillies sweep and I'll forever associate him with the Collapse of 2007.Good riddance.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Valentin's departure was to be expected. I wish him well wherever he may ultimately end up.I won't shed any tears over the departure of Lawrence and his powder puff "fastball".

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Yeah, I hope Castro comes back. I wouldn't feel secure making him a starting catcher, but as a backup he's worth keeping.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 By the way, paul LoDuca's skanky teen x-girlfriend is nekkid in playboy

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Pretty easy to find her topless pic too.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Not saying I have proof or first-hand knowledge, but I think the one in yellow has had some, ahem, alterations -- and not especially good ones at that.Paulie seemed to have the pick of that litter!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 The three not in the yellow could be the same person.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Polka-dot chick is kind of intriguing. The other three look skanky and unappealing.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Kinda hope Minaya doesn't get distracted as easily as us here, so much for the GM meetings huh?
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 shush! there's boobies!

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Some news from the meetings, Baseball GMs recommend instant replayProbably wouldn't happen anytime soon with it having to go through Selig and get approval from the players union and the umpires. It's not clear to me if the owners must also approve it, do they?

Blanton really turned a corner last year; he's not an ace, but he'd certainly be beneficial.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 We need to gig up our Officer Joe Blanton thread from a few years back.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 The Mets were in talks for him last year, came up empty, and missed the boat on his 07 blossoming.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Holy crap, if we could get Hudson - wow, that really solidifies the infield! And we need some upgraded infield defense anyway. Depends on the asking price.

I still think a #2 reliever is a top priority, but if you can put a solid #2 plus two of Smith/Sanchez/Padilla/Muniz in place of Mota/Sele/Sosa, that's got to be worth a bunch of wins relative to last year.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
