Green Acres Part II

Since his sit down with Willie on August 15th where Green was told he would get reduced playing time, Green has responded by hitting .353 in 68 ABs with an OPS of .959.

Since Delgado went on the DL and Green got some of his regular playing time back at 1B, he is batting .407 with 2 HR and an OPS of 1.219 in 33 plate appearances with only 2 Ks and 1 GDP.

Now that Delgado is going to be ready to return to the lineup this weekend, does Green go back to platooning in RF with Milledge, or will he steal some starts at 1B down the stretch?

Obviously, the outcome rests on whether Delgado is truly 100%...but Green is smoking hot right now, and I can hardly expect this kind of production from Delgado given his season up to the point that he got hurt.

Love him on the bench.

I can hardly expect it from Green either, but he's sure earned the right to try. I expect him to start something like 50% of the time going down the stretch, stealing reps here and there from Milledge, Delgado, and Alou.

I swear I read this at first glance as "Green is smoking pot right now" and wondered how that helped his hitting.

ETA: Maybe on the pitches that are high and outside.

Flip side: If we assume it will take Delgado up to a week to get it going again, don't we want to give him that opportunity, given that anything approaching the postseason he had last year would be very helpful...

Sure, but let's also assume that his flexor may not respond well to everyday use, and he may rest two or three times down the stretch.

I think it would be a good idea to baby both Alou and Delgado from here on in, and having a productive Shawn Green to plug in for them here and there is a nice situation.

Letting Milledge sit a few times would be okay, too.

There are only eleven games left. If Milledge and Alou sit three times each, and Delgado twice, that's eight starts for Green.
