if the mets don't win the WS this year (gasp) i don't see omar leaving both RF and LF to millege and gomez...

if we win and millege goez bonkers rest of the season, i can see it. but if millege starts struggling... I don't know if omar could trust them.

smg - "The Mets have already declined Green's option, and Alou has to hit awfully well when he comes back for the Mets to even consider picking up his option at this point."

I would rather see the Mets keep Green around for another year, than to bring back Alou.

i'd rather have Alou, he's much better when healthy, its really unfortunate that Chavez got hurt when he did because he was an adequate replacement.

Alou is a productive hitter when he is healthy and able to play. However, his track record is littered with extensive stays on the DL and I think his health makes him too much of a risk to actually depend upon in the future. Alou just turn 41 years old and I don't see his health being less of a risk next season. He could be a great pinch hitter off the bench and an occassional starter against lefties, but I would hate to rely upon him for anything more than that.

Green on the other hand will turn 35 this November. He has consistently appeared in 150 games a year and is still reasonably productive, though not nearly the threat he once was at the plate. All things considered, I would rather take my chances on Green being healthy and productive, than Alou. Green could also probably serve as a back up to Delgado with an off season to prepare for first base.

Now if the Mets go out and get a better option for a corner outfield spot in the off season I won't be upset with that either.

Someone,I think Gary Cohen opined one night that Alou was on a HOF career path except his multiple injuries have stopped it.....who knows what's available in the off season for the outfield,or even in a trade...

I would like to see neither player return, at least in a starting role. In a perfect world, I'd like to see one established corner guy, and one spot left for a kid, either Milledge or Gomez.

I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl, but Milledge's first 18 at-bats this year have given him a line of .222/.267/.444//.707

I know it's a small sample, but I get the impression that we are ready to replace Green with him. I know Green's going downhill but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

If I have gotten the wrong impression than never mind.

Edit: typo fixed

Not including 2 for 2 today which puts his BA at .292 according to Gameday. Not sure how accurate those numbers are.

Milledge only has one walk and one HBP so far, but he seems to be making adjustments otherwise so hopefully the walks will come.
