Vargas sent down - almost certainly removing him from the Sunday starting slot - and Sandy Alomar Jr. gets the call-up, making him the third member of the Alomar family to play for the Mets (a first I assume).

Sounds like Dave Williams - who contractually actually HAS to be called up by a certain date (Mid July) - sounds like he's the likely choice for that last game before the AS break.

Also, the LoDuca appeal gets held on Friday so he'll miss one or both of the games on the final weekend.

Sort of the second. Mel Rojas is a nephew of Jesus Alou and a cousin of Moises Alou.

And speaking of relatives; the Dan Hernandez currently playing for the GCL Mets is apparently Keith's nephew. How & when did he get in the org? I didn't see him on the recent draft list so I guess we're talking an undrafted FA?

Meanwhile 36th rounder Glen (son of Howard) Johnson is one of the unsigned ones remaining from last month's draft. He may be headed to college instead.

Speaking of relatives I was just reading Gary Carter's creepy book, A DREAM SEASON, where he wishes his relationship with his own brother was as good as Keith & his brother's (and Keith's brother & Gary Carter).

I wonder if the Carter Bros. have reconciled.

Keith mentioned during the broadcast that they signed his nephew as an undrafted FA. He mentioned it in the context of Pedro Martinez; apparently, Hernandez the Younger played in the simulated game that Pedro threw the other day, and said he had the filthiest stuff he'd ever seen. Of course, he's just a college kid, so you have to figure that he's never seen a pitcher as good as Pedro Martinez, but whatever.

Had to look up the Gamer and yeah, sounds creepy.

I had to LOL reading GC go on for several pages about 'touching' as an expression of love between teammates. It made my hair hurt.

I got the ice cream and a new nickname, "Kid." Soon the entire team started calling me Kid Carter. The term wans't always addressed as a compliment, but I usually took it that way. Kids are enthusiastic, kids are energetic; kids are happy. That was me. Before long, I started referring to myself as the Kid, and the name stuck. For most of my baseball career, I answered to Kid; none of my teammates or people who knew me well called me Gary.

One more way Torrez comes woefully short. Hey, Mike, if you're in a room full of once and future Mets (and Foli was both), and you're insulting a rookie, make sure he knows he's insulted.
