From reading the article, it sounds like the writer wasn't really trying to sell them at all.

In the process of selling them he:
(a) Documents giving away merchandise for free
( Proved to be utterly incapable of money management. How do you come up $29.75 short, even after getting at least $6 (as documented) in tips?
