Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Jake Peavy pitching to D'Backs:2nd inning:Eric Byrnes struck out swinging;Stephen Drew struck out swinging;Carlos Quentin struck out swinging.3rd Inning:Chris Snyder struck out swinging.Brandon Webb struck out swinging.Chris Young struck out swinging.4th inning:Alberto Callaspo struck out swinging.Orlando Hudson struck out swinging.Chad Tracy struck out looking.5th Inning:Eric Byrnes ... walked on a 3-2 count, 1 K short of Seaver's 10 K in a row record, and DAMN that pitch was close!!!!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 WOW....can't wait to see the highlights.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Just saw it on ESPN,it was amazing, one hitter was called out swinging by 2nd base ump and Byrnes on the 2 - 2 pitch was nearly rang up by the same ump ,count went to 3-2 and then he walked....great stuff...Peavey - 7.2 innings oitched,2 hits 16 K's
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 And then the Padres lost the game on a Stephen Drew walk-off HR off of Hoffman

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 If he were a man he would have finished the game like Seaver.Seaver's 10 came to end the game right? I think I remember him talking about it once and joking that the only reason it wasn't more than 10 is because the game was over.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Yes it was the last 10 batters of a game in Sandy Eggo.Dave "Soup" Campbell - who later went on to work for ESPN - was part of that game said once that he didn't want to take anything away from Seaver who was def dealing that day anyway but it was an afternoon game and the end was played in those creeping shadows that sometimes affect hitters and that no one stood a chance by the latter portion of the game. It was a 19K game overall.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Speaking of complete games last night the M's defeated the A's 2-0 as both starters went 9 (Washburn vs. Blanton) and the game was over in 1:47.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Very cool. I think my record still is 1:55 for a ARZ-LA (Schilling and Kevin Brown both pitched CGs) 2-0 game in April '01.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 At 1:55 I'm still in the concessions line at Shea.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I've been doing some tracking of game times - that was the 3rd sub-2:00 game so far this season.
