Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Should Green be put on notice for swinging for the fences and killing the rally?
Guest Kid Carsey Guests Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Seems like the Mets hit an awful lot of warning track flies tonight, maybeI'm just tired and cranky.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Cranky would be a good way to start.1. LoDuca sure seemed to loaf after that first Wild Pitch that let Andruw score. Didn't seem like he realized at all that Andruw would take off from third.2. Willie not putting in a righty to face Francoeur. Feliciano was in the second inning of work, he leaves him in to face Chipper, and then Andruw (curious), but for the bases loaded with Francoeur? Umm, maybe not the best idea.3. Willie brings in Burgos in a spot where the game could spiral out of control if we didn't shut the door right there. Maybe at 5-0 it wasn't the closest game ever, but using Burgos over Smith (or even Heilman) seems to show, in my opinion, indifference as to the outcome of the game.4. Moises Alou bangs one off the wall -- and winds up with a SINGLE! Damn, he is so freaking slow.5. Not hitting.6. At all.The Jackie Robinson day festivities were nice. David Robinson (Jackie's brother) spoke before the game and had some graceful remarks (including ending with urging the Mets to victory). Rachel Robinson was there but didn't speak.Strange: All of the between-inning music was Motown: My Guy, Baby I Need Your Lovin', The Way You Do The Things You Do, It Takes Two, This Old Heart of Mine, etc etc.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I don't mind him bringing in Burgos when he did. There was no right answer at that point.Would that he would have had Burgos or Smith or another righty in before that, though. Agree with you there. But the offense made it pretty irrelevant.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Well, the offense did eventually rally. Too little too late, but that still doesn't mean that being down five runs is better than being down seven runs when you have an offense that gives you hope to rally.Willie shows inexplicable forebearance with Burgrodrojas.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 - I didn't (and still don't) have a problem with bringing in Burgos there- I was surprised LoDuca started. The hand is obviously bothering him (saw it on the checked swing) and with a day game after a night game today it seemed like a logical time to give him one extra day to heal. He's also now something like 0 for his last 16 - something that may or may not be related to the hand/finger issue
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
