Didn't M. Donald Grant try to argue in a press conference that Seaver was actually NOT the Franchise, which while literally correct, proved that Grant was out of touch with the fans and the needs of the team.

Howie Rose has told the story often of Grant complaining to Lang (credited with the nickname) that "Mrs. Payson and I are the franchise!"
