Alternate universe managerial question

From this thread, I'm curious what you imagine various alternative managers would get out of the 2007 Mets.

My own biases tell me that a manager means maybe 5 wins, either way, to most teams. Assuming that the 2007 Mets will win 95 games (an arbitrary figure) with Willie this year, how many do you think they'd win with some of my other choices, listed below? My own biases, again, tell me that Willie is slightly below average, as MLB managers go (more than slightly in the in-game portion of the job, where he's shown himself to be a dunderhead), so with 95 as my baseline, I'd say that my first question, "How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under a randomly selected manager from the current roster of MLB managers?" would be 98.

I'd say 99.

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under Bobby Cox?"

I'd say 100.

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under Art Howe?"

I'd say 96.

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under Bobby Valentine?"

I'd say 100.

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under Joe Girardi?"

I'd say 98.

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under Charlie Manuel?"

I'd say 93.

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under your choice of CPFer?"

I'd say 91.

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under HoJo?'"

I'd say 94

"How many wins would the 2007 Mets get under a randomly selected fan at Shea with at least four beers in him?"

I'd say 88.

I'll play for the fun,but I do think that Willie commands a level of respect that ensures his team doesn't quit.

IMO Randolph is a wash over the course of a season, he doesnt win or lose more games than the average manager, whatever that is.

My thought is that 5 games are a lot, probably reached only by the very worst and best skippers alone, and not completely in isolation.

My other thought is that managerial intangibles come out in the wash: The few games a year Manager X blows with a dumb decision is probably made up for by, for example, getting his guys to play hard day in & out or diffusing potentially poisonous influences in the clubhouse or whatever, better than Manager Y might.

I think Willie's in-game skills aren't great: Especially in his first year, much too much bunting and small ball, and a Torrelike tendency to distrust certain guys. But that has gotten better since.

my thought is that neither could any of us, nor mr. or mrs. random drunk mets fan, get the team to play hard every day for us, nor could we maintain a focused team throughout the course of hte season, as i doubt the players would have any respect for us. and while some players can manage and coach themselves, the majority cannot, at least not for an entire season.

and so, i doubt that no matter how good the talent on the team, i'd have a hard time thinking that "just anybody" can manage a winning team.

well, except maybe me. i'd be great!

Cap Anson: Tosses the colored players off the team. Insists on playing first base himself; at the age of 155, his defensive range is somewhat limited, but his keen batting eye leads to a .305 average. 88.

A lifesize cardboard cutout of Connie Mack: A fine figure of a man as he stands in the dugout, the Tall Tactician inspires the players by his very presence, leaving on-field decisions to coach Jerry Manuel. 90 wins, and a sentimental choice as Manager of the Year.
