duan Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 according to this http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=234&p=2&c=597256Abreu's been left exposed to the Rule V draft. You gotta think someone's got room on their 40 man to see if he's worth giving a whirl as a ph/dh/1b fill in, even if he is 31 rather then 27.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Do the Mets choose what players to expose?
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 how is Abreu eligible? He doesn't have the service time, does he?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Yes.Concepcion seems like he'd be hard to carry on a major league roster at this point, but a Kansas City could pull it off, I guess.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 for concepcion, see pagan, angel.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Dickshot has a point. Why should the Mets be forced to carry Abreu on the 40 to protect him from a draft designed to free-up five-year minor leaguers?
duan Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 I have NO idea. That article may be wrong.

So it's a combination of "choice" and circumstances.Any player plucked off another team's roster must be kept on the major league roster the entire year or offered back to his original team.* just changed from 3 or 4 years in the new labor agreement

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 If we don't sign Lugo, maybe we could take a chance on a few young 2bmen like Ryan Raeburn (Tigers) and Tim Moss (Philly). Bring them in and see if they can beat out Easley, Gotay or whomever. Its not like we've got anything in our system. Also, I'd like to see if Eli Whiteside (baltimore) could beat out Castro as backup C. With the recent trades and FA signings, we might also want to take a look at a few young reliever prospects like Wells (cubs), D.Smith (braves) and Plummer (KC), or a few older guys like Grokiewicz (Toronto) and Bateman (SF).
