The Tigers had better overall balance in their lineup.
The A's had Rickey setting the table for the Bruise Brothers and a closer (Eckersley) who was as hot at the end of the season as Hernandez had been at the start.
Gotta' go with the balance and the hot closer.
Detroit.

I voted A's. But, on retrospect, that team --- despite having three or four of the best players in baseball --- were as good at coming up short in the post-season as LaRussa's subsequent Cardinal teams.

Tigers. Good talent up and down, good chemistry, and Sparky in the dugout.

That Sweet Lou Whitaker is pretty good. I miss John Wockenfuss. Is Ron LeFlore still on probation?

on edit. Hmm, Wocky didn't play for the Tiggers that year. The Leflore reference was simply a joke. Everyone knows LaVar Burton was a better baseball player anyway.
