The Mets in the NLCS

Time to follow up on the Mets in the NLDS thread. (And I certainly hope to be doing a Mets in the World Series thread before the month is out.)

The Mets are about to begin their seventh League Championship Series. Of the six they've played so far, they've won four (over Atlanta in 1969, Cincinnati in 1973, Houston in 1986, and St. Louis in 2000) and lost two (to Los Angeles in 1988 and to Atlanta in 1999).

The Mets overall won-lost record in LCS play is 19 wins and 13 losses.

None of the current Mets have played in the past League Ghampionship Series for the Mets, so the 2006ers gunning for these records are all starting at zero. There are 30 Mets who have played in more than one series, so they have a bit of an advantage that may help them retain their records, at least for this year. (There are three sets of teams that reached the NLCS twice: the 1969 and 1973 Mets; the 1986 and 1988 Mets; and the 1999 and 2000 Mets.)

The records that look to be in the most jeopardy for 2006 are stolen bases, caught stealing, and perhaps triples and saves.

If anyone wants to step up and break Jesse Orosco's wins record this year, they are more than welcome to do so.

He lost an LCS game in 1986 and another one in 1988.

Sadly, I was at both Sid losses. Game 4 against Scott in 86, where he didn't pitch terribly but gave up a couple HRs and took the loss. And Game 5 in 88. I sat in the same box as Tony Roberts, the actor, watching the Dodgers jump on him for an early 6-run lead.
