MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I saw this on another Mets board and wondered how CPF-ers would answer it.]One of the people who reports to me is a die-hard Yankee fan. He's young, single and went to see about 40 Yankee games this year. He eats, sleeps and breathes the Yankees. You know the type. The Derek Jeter screen saver. The full lineup of bobbleheads. The works. He had tickets and was at the game last night for hours before they cancelled it. They've rescheduled for today at 1PM. Do I let him go?Well, would you?Later
Guest Hillbilly Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Of course I'd let him go, but I'd torture the hell out of him by making him think I won't.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I'd maybe screw around with his stuff while he was gone.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Edgy DC wrote:I'd maybe screw around with his stuff while he was gone.Ooh, I like it. The Jeter/A-Rod bobblehead possibilities are endless. I'd let him go too, of course.
Guest 86-Dreamer Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I faced the same decision today with one of my staff. I let her twist in the wind for a few minutes, but of course I let her go. Good idea about vandalizing her Jeter shrine while she is away ....
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I'm wondering whether I would have fired him long ago.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 My response;]First answer: Let him/her go. Show him/her that Mets fans are nice people. Business answer: Besides, how much work do you expect to get out of him/her? He'll either have a radio plugged into his ear or watch the game/ updates on his computer. Or both. Its not like you're going to be losing much productivity if he/she isn't there. Real answer: Fuck him/her. Yankee fans think they're just as special as their team. Keep the MFY fan at work, micromanage their every move this day, so they can't follow the game, and (knowing you'll now have a very unhappy worker) post their job description on Monster and Hot Jobs. Follow-up. The person who posted that said he let the person go to the game.Later
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I had the same situation. She didn't go last night but was offered the ticket when the ticket holder couldn't go. I let her go.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 It depends what you mean by "let him go."
Guest Mr. Zero Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 maybe not hire him in the first place?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 Mr. Zero wrote:maybe not hire him in the first place? We're not sure its a "him".What if the applicant was as alluring as Edgy's "Ms. S" the Yankee fan?Later
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 I decided what I'd do with the bobbleheads. I'd line everyone but A-Rod on one side of the shelf. They should all be facing the same way. I'd put A-Rod a few feet away, facing the opposite direction. I'd then place a bobblehead-size mirror in front of him. Sure, it's not as easy as simulating a Jeter/A-Rod blowjob, but this has got much better repeat value. Every time the dude's out of the office, you can rearrange them in different orders. Maybe you remove Sheffield & Giambi from the pack and put two little syringes next to them one time . . .Then there's the obligatory kidnapping. One of my former coworkers stole a Piazza bobblehead from my office and left a ransom note. Good times. (I got him back safe and sound, by the way, although I DID leave him to my coworker as a parting gift when I left the company. She seemed to be coming around to the Mets--when she got married, one of the items she registered for was Mets tickets, which I of course bought for her ASAP, along with a Mets monkey. It reminded me of the Office, which, given our work situation, was all-too-appropriate!).
Guest cooby Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 OMG, even the Yankee fan would have to laugh at that
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 ]We're not sure its a "him". What if the applicant was as alluring as Edgy's "Ms. S" the Yankee fan? That WOULD explain it. Hey, Edge, maybe you should see what happens when you tell S, "Go to work."
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 The last few people I've hired have been either Mets fans or, in one case, a Cardinal fan (he's from St. Louis). Slowly I'm changing the formerly Yankee dominant culture here.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Somewhere there is a file room in the basemet that once served as a bomb shelter. Horrible radio reception down there. Sounds to me like the perfect afternoon to have Mel Hall, Jr. down there cleaning up some old files.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 S. works. Shes's working on my soul.Personally, I think that Jeter is more likely to be the mirror gazer. I think you should positoin the bobbles so as to smash the party line that Jeter is the boy scout/leader/superhero and A-Rod the interloper.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 dont let him go. yankee fans deserve to suffer.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 There is no one in the lab where i work to talk about the game with..guy that sits next to me - " so the Mets won last night"me - yep"him - " so who were they playing"end of conversation.
Guest Hillbilly Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 That's got to take some of the fun out of it, Irish. I'm THE Met fan around here, so everyone has engaged me in conversation about the game. I did leave a nice print out of one of Zvon's cards on my assistant department chair's door. He's a pseudo Dodger fan.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 ]S. works. Shes's working on my soul. No no no. Ulla, go to work!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 This reminds me of the thread that was on SoSH one time.Seems that some poster (prolly from Conneticut) was worried that her kid (6-7 y/o or so) was being "infected" by kids at school and rapidly becoming a Yanqui fan. What's a mother to do, she asked the board."Kill it and have another" was one of the answers.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 It is a parent's responsibility to ensure that any children of theirs roots for the correct team. Abandoning this responsibility is simply bad parenting. Once a child is indoctrinated into Metdom (or in the case in point, Red Soxdom), it must go hand-in-hand with anti-MFY feelings. There is no excuse for allowing a child to go over to the other side.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 of course the correct answer is to never have allowed the situation to develop in teh first place. you you allow chicken sacrifice in teh office? no. same thing with yankee paraphernalia. it has no place in a place of office, or learning, or goofing off at taxpayer expense. the first sign of pinstripes or interlocking n's and y's, and the employee should've had a long stern sit down with HR. no two ways about it.and if that didnt work, and the behavior continued, the employee should have been dismissed immediately. businesses just shouldn't tolerate such things.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Let them go, but switch the Derek Jeter screen saver with David Wright.
