Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Top of the eighth in Houston, Phillies 5, Astros 3.The magic number may live for yet another day.Tomorrow's Phillies game starts five minutes before the Mets game does. But the Phillies are playing the Cubs, and are almost certain to win.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Anyone see the Marlins blow their game today? The shoddy defense they showed against us the other night was nothing compared to this afternoon in Atlanta.First they take a 7-3 lead in the top of the 10thThen, in the bottom of the inning:- Willingham mis-plays a ball in LF- Abercrombie partially mis-plays a deep drive in CF for a 2B- then a hit falls in because Abercrombie gets a bad break on a bloop into shallow CF- then a possible DP/sure 1 out shot to 2nd gets muffed by Ramirez at SS and they get no one out(at this point there are 3 Atlanta runs in, one out, and runners on 1st & 2nd)- then a legit single into LF which should result in a possible play on the tying run at the plate ... which Willingham over-runs and the ball rolls behind him allowing both the tying AND winning runs to score.I think only 1 error was charged but they had a shot at at least 5 outs and turned only 1.They've now lost 4 of their last 5, at least 2 of which were winnable with better late-inning defense ... and that's the difference between 4 games out of the WC and 2"Our worst loss of the year", said Joe Girardi

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Yeah, but they delayed the inevitable clinching (would have happened if the MFYs swept) and ended Jeter-boy's hitting streak.
