What motivated me to start it was this deal where Bonds was hit by a pitch tonight.
The opposing pitcher was tossed with no warning (as far as I know).
WTF?

Ill have to see this again on Sportcenter or Baseball 2night, cuz i dont understand why this pitcher was tossed.
What?-Are you not allowed to make mistakes?
or pitch inside?
No warning?
Is this because it was Bonds at bat?

He was warned.

First pitch of the at-bat was behind Bonds' back. Every subsequent pitch was inside, with the lone strike because it hit the bat.

No, the pitcher (Russ Springer) had been warned.
He threw behind him once (hence the warning) and then inside about 4 more times (including one that hit his bat) before plunking him and promptly getting tossed; Garner too.

Was there any reason why the pitcher was trying to hit Bonds?
I know SF had a huge lead.......

He threw 5 consecutive pitches that nearly hit Barry. If it wasn't intentional, Springer doesn't deserve to be a professional pitcher.

Yea, your a big Bonds fan.
After watching the at bat and getting the facts, i have to say, if Spinger was throwin at Bonds because of that homer he hit way back,...or even because he had two hits in the game today, the guys a bigger asshole than Bonds.
And if manager Garner ordered that, he should face some kind of penalty too.

You can never get a Springer to back down.

The rules (which allow for ejection) and the unwritten rules (which allow for retaliation) both consider endangering batters with pitching that is reckless or plain imcompetently wild to be actionable offenses. You don't have to be intentional. Reckless endangerment is enough.

See the Piazza beaning last year, as the St. Louis pitcher kept pleading that the pitch got away from him, and LaRussa's attitude was that if he couldn't keep pitches out of the batter's ear, he had no place on the mound.

Batters have an absolute responsiblity to protect their ears by bailing out. Pitchers have an absolute responsiblilty to discourage batters from leaning over the outside corner of the plate. You don't have that, you don't have baseball. You have fungo.

Apparently the 2 previous times Bonds had faced Springer he had been hit. The time before that he hit a homer. Springer never forgives.

Bret is right about that, the umps pull the ejection card way too early causing pitchers to feel like they arent allowed to pitch inside. if a pitcher throws inside and it hits the batter just take your base and shut your mouth, barring a clemens/benitez throw that is clearly intentional the umps shouldnt even warn anyone.

I'd take this as good news because it means ESPN will stop with the f***ing constant Bonds watch, but in my heart I know they won't. He still has 40 to go before Aaron, and I guess that means every AB he takes from now until then (or, hopefully, his retirement beforehand) will be treated like HISTORY IN THE MAKING!
