Someone better grab a photo from today's game quick before Lima joins Bob Gibson on top of Yancy's "UMDB's Most Wanted List" in terms of blue caps. Got a feeling his Met career is one-and-done

Zvon turning point of the game:

j/k, but it set the tone for the day.

I don't think we're going to have the best bullpen ERA anymore after that craptacular performance from Bartolome.

They just need a touchdown, a recovered onside kick, and a hail mary.

Too shadowy for a grab by Yancy though

17? Lima took 17?

Right now Lima's mug shot on UMDB is just a pitching Mr. Met and his qualifications is an all blue cap, all pics of I've seen of Lima as a Met are in the black & blue cap or in the ST cap

HA, especially considering Lima's place in the game, wouldn't want him to be the pitching version of Larry Bowa for Yancy!

Better explain that since it seems that this IGT has gone quiet in case anyone doesn't know, but it doesn't seem many photos exist of a 1985 late season accquition, Larry Bowa, and unlike many in Yancy's "Most Wanted List" Larry was the one with the most Major League noteritiy, being an multiple time all-star and postseason performer with those great late 70's-early 80's Phillie teams. So it became a "White Whale" project until it was noticed that Larry's card in the Mets 1991 All-Time-Roster card set was online at MetsCollectors.com last summer.

I'll take Bowa's career over Lima's, but Lima has some noteritity and success over the years, All Star, a 20 win season and is a "colorful character" so his page at UMDB will get a bunch of hits, which is how the Most Wanted Rankings is deterimined. Right now Bob Gibson heads that list based, probably on people searching for the Hall of Famer Bob Gibson, not the one-and-done 1987 Met Bob Gibson

And since today's game fufills Yancy's "Blue Cap" requirement, its a great opportunity to cross Jose Lima off that list!

That pic should fit the (blue) bill.

It's certainly an apt way to sum up his Mets career to date.

I still think it was nice to have Lima, here, for this spot, on this day.

He did eat up a start at a time we needed a starter more than a win.

Hey! Maybe the Braves will make 13 errors in this inning and help us out.

ahhh.....finally put out of my misery.
Well, we took 2 out of three.
I like the way we messed up the Braves rotation with the long game Friday, and if Maine didnt go laime it could have worked in our favor.
But thats the way the ball bounces.

Its on to Philly with a nice lil lead in the NL East.

Just curious as to why you guys think this is Lima's only shot. It's not like Bannister is all better and Zambrano is gone

I wouldnt mind Lima long out of the pen, but I dunno about him filling a gap in the rotation. Im not adverse to taking another look at him in that role. Bannister should be back in a week.
I hear theres no chance of Heilman coming out of the pen to start.
But right now, no matter how we fill it, theres a hole in the rotation.

I'm fairly certain that Bannister is better. If nothing else, he's much more deserving of the spot than Jose Lima. I know he has ML-experience. I know he won 20 games once, but Lima has a well-documented history of ineptitude and disaster. Why bother when we can try rookies who won't be any worse, and will get some experience to boot?

I think she meant health wise.

I think she meant better as in ready to come off the DL. Most of us seem in agreeance that Bannister is superior to Lima at this point, but if Bannister ain't healthy, Jose is all we got.
EDIT: Beaten to the punch.

I was also speculating that this could be Lima's only time in a blue cap as well.

You know, now that I think of it, when was the last time the Mets wore their all blue caps on the road?

I would guess 1997.

Are you fucking serious, Bret?

I mean, you did watch that play, right?

Totally serious. That was a home-team pure-pity ruling. All he did was range far to his right, a play any decent (not even Gold Glove) 2b man makes every game, but he failed to handle it cleanly. Normally, that gets scored E-4. I think the Great Scorer was so astonished that Matsui, with his postage-stamp-sized range (better to his left than to his right, for some reason) even got to it, that he figured that actually catching it was de trop.

Anyway, let's get to bench management issues. To do so, we'll need to find the WWSB thread.

When someone hits the ground and loses the ball while rolling over there's no way that's an error.

btw, re: Angel Hernandez: (from the Yahoo story connected with the PotG boxscore)
"After the game, both Lima and Lo Duca said that Hernandez told them that he was calling pitches farther off the plate strikes for Smoltz, but not for Lima.
"When the umpire said 'I'm going to give you a couple of inches off the plate, but I'm not going to give you 4-5 inches because you're not John Smoltz,' I'm trying to protect my pitcher," Lo Duca said."

I can't belive an ump would actually say that.
