Good time at Big Shea tonite. I've now seen two Met games this year and seem Tom F. Glavine strike out 21 guys and X Nady hit two balls a combined 850 feet. Holy shit!

Wright's single to drive in the second run sorta indicated to me he's getting out of the woods offensively. It wasn't a pretty hit but you could see him adjust mid swing and will that thing through the hole.

The thing is that he wasn't whining, as so many people seem to accuse anybody who responds to boos (as if provoking a response isn't part of the point. He accepted full responsiblity for his performance, knew full well how his salarly contextualized his performance, stated that he was beating up on himself more than they were, but... it was a miserable time to be so hated when all he wanted to do was perform well, and the negativity of the atmosphere was brutal.

He also said something along the lines of "you can't understand how it feels until it happens to you". A comment like that also, especially if some fool "reporter" takes it out of context, comes off as whiny. But it really wasn't whiny and makes sense to me. I hope to never have tens of thousands of people booing the hell out of me.

I also liked the point that he made that you have the highs aloing with the lows, when you do something good and everyone loves you. In '02 (I think it was his first year with the team), I was at a game where he was getting booed the entire time. Bottom of the ninth, he hits a three run homer to tie it. (I think it was three run anyway, maybe not.) Top of the tenth when he runs out to right, everyone in the seats out there stood up for him and was cheering. I was jealous of that, I still want to be a major league ballplayer.

I agree with him, it's easier to handle the boos when you know you can get the cheers too. Problem is, if you're some poor bastard like Doug Sisk who has lost the ability to earn cheers, you're in for a rough year.

Agreed. He knew he was making an outrageous sum of money and he knew he stunk. He knew he deserved the boos from the fans, said it wasn't pleasent but accepted it and held no grudges against the fans nor did he act petulant towards them.

That's how it should be.

I went looking for the interview, but MLB.tv, despite giving me the Metscast last night, is giving me the Buccast on replay. It was about the sixth seventh inning, for those of you who can get a SNY or Tivo replay.

Glavine was just wicked last night. I don't get it. Since he got here, I looked at him and Trax as guys without an "out-pitch," so they had to be perfect in speed and location, because they didn't have a pitch that was so hard to hit they could let it rip when they were behind the count, or have somebody desperately defending against when they were ahead.

It seems like he does now. I think and hope maybe Pedro is infectious.

Darling made a point that bringing in Julio to finish the game may be a boost to his confidence. He closes out a shutout, gets to be involved in a win, and shakes hands as if he is the closer. Interesting point. I hope there is some carry-over.
