Give him another month, then lets see Keppinger.Cairo last year. This year Hernandez.Keppinger next. When will you kids learn?EDIT: BTW, this idea of giving him ANOTHER month is fairly stupid. Now Floyd and Beltran both have questionable health. We can't afford to carry Andy's bat. (Not that we could in the first place.)learn what exactly? its not like we have some great option around who is being blocked.

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Your picks are 0 for 2 in getting the job done.Time to give someone else a chance to pick the starter. But let's enjoy the win.

Most likely the baseball announcers never knew how to speak anything but English. But the proper pronunciation for the letter a is the same in Spanish and Italian. Very romantic and all.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Win #200! Congratulations, Pedro!Wagner, has some wicked, sick stuff. Great game.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Gameday is staying with the three announcers in the booth, waiting to go back on, giggling, elbowing each other, Gary Cohen applying makeup to his pate, Keith making sure he's getting maximum coverage with his hair.Funny stuff. Darling talking nonsense.

He isn't "0-1" yet because it is only April 17th.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Nice game all around. I'm nervous about Cliff & Beltran, especially with no Diaz. Willie made some stupid moves last year with the DL--leaving multiple walking wounded on the roster without sending them down. It really hurt our lineup, and this year, we've got Matsui, Keppinger & Diaz ready and able to contribute in AAA. Valentin's toast. Let's cut him and bring Matsui back up .
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I don't know what good matsui does you, this team NEEDS Diaz right now with both Beltran and Floyd hurting. if you want to bring them both up (by getting rid of valentin and julio) thats fine too, but an OFer is the immediate need,

This year it's an even less deserving guy getting all the p.t.. Keppinger has an axe to grind, IMO. If superb defense alone were justification for a starting spot then Endy Chavez would still be starting somewhere. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/individual_stats_player.jsp?c_id=nym&playerID=435038Comparing Hernandez to Rey-Rey is a disservice to Ordonez. This is another example of Willie refusing to alter his approach in the face of catastrophic failure. And we just beat the Braves and are 10-2.If Beltran and Floyd miss any significant time, Hernandez becomes less forgiveable.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Keppunger was hurt last year by the time Cairo was stinking up the joint, so he never blocked Keppinger, only Hernandez.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Great IGT people, I was out at JFK all evening, I hate that place.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 *62 - "If Beltran and Floyd miss any significant time, Hernandez becomes less forgiveable."I agree. The Mets need to get some offensive help while Beltran and Floyd are out. They can't expect to win many games with Valentin, Chavez, Hernandez and a pitcher comprising the bottom of the batting order. This team really needs some help in the outfield. Is there a time period that must elapse before Diaz can be recalled from Norfolk? What ever happened to Eric Valent? It seems Willie never really warmed to the guy, but he sure could be handy about now.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Yeah what ever became of Valent, has he been gone from the Mets for a few seasons now?.....where the hell is he?

He poked Sanchez in the chest and told his replacement: "Now's your time.""What else can you ask for?" said an inspired Sanchez, who struck out Marcus Giles.I was wondering what Pedro was hanging around for when Willie pulled him. Demonstrating leadership again. Leadership in the pen and on the bench. I'm getting way too high on this team.
