v. Ortiz

Beltran: .556 OPS, 1 HR, 1 K, 23 AB
=red]Delgado: 1.560 OPS, 5 HR, 3 K, 30 AB
Cliff: .500 OPS, 0 HR, 1 K, 12 AB
LoDuca: .516 OPS, 0 HR, 1 K, 13 AB
Reyes: .400 OPS, 0 SB, 0 K, 10 AB
=red]Valentin: 1.367 OPS, 1 HR, 2 K, 12 AB
=orange]Woody: .800 OPS, 0 HR, 2 K, 10 AB

The rest have had under 10 AB against Ortiz. I'd have been tempted to put Valentin in there instead of Hernandez today given how much our regulars have struggled against him, but we'll see how it goes, I guess . . .

Wasn't Ortiz a Benson Buncher?

I think that was Russ Ortiz, this is Ramon.

You're right!

New rule. You can't joine the MLBPA unless you have a last name unique from all other active union members.

Or at least can't have the same last name and first initial. The other Pedro Martinez is the guy we really have to drum out.

VP Cheney to throw out the first pitch.
The scouting report lists him as having questionable control. In particular, there was
one notorious HBP* during the winter league.

Beltran lines to first, double play.

Is anyone actually watching? How's Bannister look? Is he pitching inside at all?

Piazza would've had him

LoDuca couldn't throw out Nick Johnson?

That's a little embarassing.

Clayton grounds out to Reyes, and Bannister's out of the inning.

Top of the third.

Ortiz with 25 pitches thrown through 2. We've got to be more patient with him. Nat's pen is a bit overworked after the extra innings last night--if we can get to the pen early, we'll be setting ourselves up nicely for the rest of the series.

Just adding to my theory that our pitchers should bat ahead of Hernandez, Bannister collects a base hit.

Bannister's dad talked about what a good hitter Brian was in college in the last game. Of course, Bannister struck out both times that game, but maybe he was nervous.

I got MLB.tv working again.

Maybe it only works at work.

My grandma could throw out Nick Johnson. And she just had rotator cuff surgery.

Mets starters: 5-10
A. Hernandez: 3-20

Edit: Rotty seems to have found fancier numbers

Bannister with another 1-2-3 inning.

They're probably wrong. I tried to figure them out from the Yahoo! stat page, but they don't show sacs. I know Glavine had at least one . . .

Beltran singles to center.

Come on Carlos--Carlos wants to come home.

Cool, Beltran takes a pitch tailing to the outside and almost rips the pitcher's head off.

Not so cool, it's his first pitch batting lefthanded this season.

National color guy suggested that the Bannisters of the world (legacy rookies) come up with more poise because they've been around Major League clubhouses since they were children.

Now two on for Wright.

Carlos singles. Carloses at 1st & 2nd for Wright, who has ground into a number of DP's already this season . . .

Wright RBI streak continues, he doubles home Beltran.

MVP
