Seo somewhat suprisingly made his first appearance in relief of Penny last night against Atlanta. He retired the first 8 batters to face him before giving up back-to-back doubles to Diaz & Andruw, then a two-run shot to LaRoche with two out in the eighth. Seo struck out PH'er Jordan to end the inning, and Baez nailed down the ninth for the win.

Seo struggles in his first start against the mighty Pittsburgh bats, giving up 3 home runs in 5 innings. His ERA sits at an ugly 9.00, but his WHIP of 1.38 & K/B of 8/1 look pretty decent.

Hamulak has pitched 2.33 IP, giving up 3 H, 3 unearned runs, 1 HR, 1 BB & striking out 2.

Sanchez has been nothing short of masterful for the Mets--far better than the "glorified ROOGY" I called him when we traded for him.

Schmoll has struggled in 2 relief outings for Norfolk, allowing 5 runs in 1.67 IP on 7 H & 1 BB. He hasn't struck anyone out.

Mets winning easily at this point.

Seo's posted two good back-to-back starts against the offensively challenged Padres, allowing just 1 run in 12 innings during that span. However, his control eluded him in those starts--he allowed 7 walks over 12 innings, along with 7 hits, while striking out 8. His ERA is down to 4.85.

If he can put it all together again, maybe he'll be able to make another impressive run of starts. Then again, maybe he's just an average pitcher who got lucky last year.

Sanchez, meanwhile, continues to dominate, and make Omar look like a genius. I, by comparison, look like a moron--a price I'm happy to pay if Sanchez keeps up his stellar work.

Hamulak continues to work mop-up, and had his ERA all the way down to 2.25 before giving up 3 earned runs to San Diego on May 3.

Currently, he has a 4.15 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 11.1 K/9, 1.6 K/BB and a strange little reverse split--lefties are hitting .357 off him, while righties are only hitting .171.

Overall, if he's able to improve his control, he might move from being merely "useful" to "good."

In the first major league game featuring two Korean-born pitchers, Seo outdueled Byung-Hyung Kim last night, going 7 strong innings, allowing only one unearned run. aKim did his prt, going 6 and allowing 3 runs, only one of which was earned.

In four of Seo's last five starts, he's gone at least 6 innings, giving up 1 run or less. Interestingly, he's pitched better away from home. I don't expect that to last.

At any rate, Seo's cumulative line now resembles that of a solid #4/#5 hitter:

Wow, if Delgado or Wright could pitch that well, we might need to put them in the rotation... :-)

I had a feeling Seo would get back at least to respectable. This trade still has worked to the Mets favor to date, but it's an open question as to whether the void in the pen without Sanchez would be bigger than the void in our rotation currently is.

]Seo, 2-4 with a 5.78 ERA, was dropped from the Dodgers' rotation in May and has been pitching out of the bullpen. The Devil Rays could keep Seo � he is not be eligible for arbitration until after this season � or spin him to another club. The Mets have shown interest in re-acquiring Seo, 29, whom they traded to the Dodgers along with reliever Tim Hamulack last January for relievers Duaner Sanchez and Steve Schmoll.
