Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Pedro's 200th win, going by his 2005 win pace will come in game 33. If I'm counting correctly, that should fall in the homestand closer against Atlanta on May seventh. Of course that disregards how the Mets rotation will fall, as well as what his 2006 win pace will be.Simlarly, Billy Wagner's 300th save is expected to come in game 69. Circle June 18th on your calendar. If Wagner saves 50 games --- which is possible, though it would mean smashing Armando Benitez's record (that's right, I said it) of 43 --- he would pass Rollie Fingers and move into ninth place all time.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Has a different ring (not bad, just different) than Where Mets Rank.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Julio Franco is moving up the all-time lists:HITS -- 78th at 2521. Another season like 2005 (64) puts him at 2585, one ahead of Reggie Jackson for 72nd.STRIKEOUTS -- 97th at 1269. 57 more (like he had in '05) would put him at 1326, which puts him 79th... but other guys (Burnitz, A-Rod) will likely pass him this year.DOUBLES -- he's six away from 400.GIDP -- At 299, he's seventh all time:Ripken 350Aaron 328Yaz 323Winfield 319Murray 316Rice 315Franco 299No other active player is close (Pudge is 31st at 239).
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I don't picture Franco getting nearly as many at-bats in 2006. If he does, it's likely bad news for the Mets.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 if not for TWO YEAR (dumb dumb dumb) contract i could even see him gone by mid-year if he's unproductive because the Mets have guys just like him...as it is we're stuck with him and i expect him to get about 150 undeserved ABs
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I don't like the second year either. Unnecessary.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Didn't we read that Omar was happy to give him the two year deal because he wants Franco coaching in the Mets system when the deal is done, something like that anyway IIRC.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 That's an unbelievably foolish reason to give a guy another year on his playing contract. There are coaches aplenty. Unless they don't care about dropping him and paying him out.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Isn't he too old to be a coach?

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I think the post-Phillips Mets have shown they aren't particlularly shy about cutting loose a guy who is interfering with their aspirations.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Hey! Is this the abuse Julio Franco thread, or the "Milestone Watch" thread? Leave the old man alone.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Edgy started it! Edgy started it!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 ESPN has an article online regarding milestones that should be reached this season..noting that Pedro needs 3 wins for 200 it also notes with another shutout Pedro would pass Babe Ruth on that all time list with 18.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 With one more no-hitter, Pedro Martinez will break the team record of zero held by 770 others.

I think Whitey Ford broke that record and I'm not sure who holds it now.Later
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
