Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 New Mets radio announcer. From Jersey City, ex-Philscaster. I haven't listened to the Phils on radio. Anyone know anything about him?
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Aw come on. You could've gotten more mileage out of that one. "Hates Reds." leads to "What's his problem with Cincinnati?" etc.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 If you're going to make McCarthy jokes you can just say he's a dummy whose a mouthpiece for the LCAO.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Mole, I asked your question on another site that attracts fans of all teams, and this is the only feedback so far. I'll keep checking for more.]He got his start working for Trenton Thunder and their radio station back in the mid to late 90s. I noticed he popped up on the Phillies broadcast within the last couple of years. I usually tune out announcers pretty easily, but he always seemed solid enough to me.Later
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Author Posted December 13, 2005 I don't really expect anyone to get this one, but...
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Hmmm.It looks like Danny Kaye behind the mike. Didn't he once own a piece of the Pirates?Or early Vin Scully? But, since we're on the topic of the Phillies, could it be early Byron Saam?Later
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Author Posted December 13, 2005 Nope, it's the late, legendary Clem McCarthy.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I keep an eye on the Phils but not to the point that i listen to them on the radio.I have a hard enough time picking up the Mets down here (sNJ), probly due to my cheap lil AM radio. Some days I get it, off and on.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Mole, I was thinking baseball. My dad (may he rest in Peace) was a big racing fan, and probably would have known of him.Later
Guest Scrapple8 Guests Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Before Tom McCarthy worked for the Phils, he was the indispensable broadcaster for the Trenton Thunder. I personally like his style because he will notice pitching tendencies and other small points of the game that I find interesting. I also like him because he recognized me from Thunder games and said hello whenever I saw him in the old vet.
